Battling Linux this weekend. Got a new laptop which I understood was certified for Ubuntu.

After swapping out hard disk and memory, I read the fine print on certified message.

"Pre-installed in some regions with a custom Ubuntu image that takes advantage of the system’s hardware features and may include additional software. Standard images of Ubuntu may not work well, or at all."

Weird certification that does not work with standard install. WIfi is not working at all.

I am a member of Fosstodon and have been pretty happy with the server and it's volunteer moderators/administrators.

To my knowledge there was no significant opposition to this very public policy on a very large server a week ago.

My most recent experiments were with Joplin, an opensource note-taking app that shows promise, but just hasn't been working for me.

Did I do something wrong?

The batteries for my #DJIAir3 take forever to charge. Documentation suggests that with 100W charger it should only take about an hour.

I assumed that the cable and charge pack that comes with the Fly More package would do it.

But, today I purchased a third party 100w power supply it seems to charge them much faster.

None of the reviews I watched mentioned this and the documentation seems vague on this (IMHO).

What was your experience?

I believe that this was a feature included in my ChatGPT plus account, a week or so ago.

Today, I no longer see that as an option.

Finally, got around to creating a list ("Short List") of people that I'd like to give priority too.

This is the list of people that I will try to keep up with every day.

After a couple of days of using this list, I think it's a real improvement on my Mastodon experience.

I've been experimenting with Soapbox platform (based on Pleroma) for fediverse. I have my own server using a hosted service.

On a small server, hashtags seem to be pretty useless. I hoped to create a niche account, but without the ability to search for posts or follow a hashtag it's not useful.

I could get on a much larger server or simply use a different tool.

If anyone is interested, I commented on this Soapbox issue.

Watched the first episode of Ahsoka tonight and I'm not too excited. IMHO, it's very predictable with simple cliche (Star Wars cliche) characters. Sorry.

Will give it time to get better.

It's more Mandalorian than it is Andor, but I supposed that is expected.

Politics on Ice.

I don't make the news, I just report it. ;-)

I love the unusual texture of the ice here and am disheartented by the fact that folks feel the need to publicly fly their political flag, even while ice fishing.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all go out on the ice together and just get along.

We caught a very clear video clip of a mountain lion passing through the backyard on a wildlife camera last night.

This is pretty wild! We're about 10 minutes from the Northwest corner of Mille Lacs Lake.

Mountain Lions are very rare in Minnesota, especially this part of Minnesota.

The Backlash against AI is in part, because it's seen as something that will only benefit big corps financially. While we should pass some sensible regulations to manage the coming changes, we should also be thinking more about how to redistribute the benefits.

AI has been trained on the collective output of everyone in society. Everyone should benefit.

Has there ever been a better time to be thinking about a shorter work week?

The New Republic and other publications are reporting that the gay wedding website case was based upon a fictional couple and was not even a real request.

Has anyone found any articles written by or interviews with legal experts responding to this?

How does this happen?
How did opposition lawyers let this go?
Does it matter?

I don't think it's the job of the Supreme Court to verify these details. Shouldn't the lawyers have done this somewhere along the way?
