@paulrickards indeed! I’m experimenting again with keeping my phone in grayscale and didn’t expect that when I switched the colors back on 😄 (especially since I have a similar version of that with full colors right in front of me)
Really cool looking! It gives me vibes of carpets (70s?) for some reason.

Republicans are trying to take away and criminalize the right to make decisions around our own health, whether that’s the right to wear a mask or the right to have an abortion. Unacceptable.

“As Republicans have shrugged off Democrats' concerns, they've said they trust police officers not to abuse the power to arrest anyone for wearing a surgical mask out in public.”

Ah yes, that’s been historically not a problem at all. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Police officers and abuse of power, name a better duo.

@jeffjarvis I wish they had countered with the obvious: Trump says he had immunity, yet he tried to remain in power illegally, so either Trump doesn’t think he had immunity or Alito’s hypothetical is wrong.
Not that it would have mattered though because he’s unserious.

@jeffjarvis because I’m sure Ireland loves the other guy. 🙄 Or they can ask Germany, if they want to go by ancestral origin.
And how is that relevant? Do the Irish people care about what we think about the Taoiseach? Of course they don’t.
That kind of oped nonsense is a big reason why I stopped subscribing. So very frustrating.

@jeffjarvis once I realized that her running meant she (and Barbara Lee) would have to give up their house seat, I thought Katie Porter’s senate run was a mistake. Between Schiff, Porter, and Lee, they should have planned this better. I think Katie Porter ran too early. That’s a shame.

I'm really disappointed to discover that the Fediverse apparently put so little thought into spam prevention. The entire history of email spam is right there to learn from. This current spam campaign is about as sophisticated as an email spam campaign from the 90s, yet apparently there's nothing I can do about it beyond playing whack-a-mole with blocking disposable accounts and servers.

I really hope I'm wrong here and missing something because if not this is super super super disappointing.

Ok, I caved and bought that $32 “instant” digital camera that prints on thermal paper.

It’s a weird and wonderful shitty camera. The printer is pretty good, using error diffusion dithering but a bit slow. It’s apparently a 12MP camera that can also do 1080p video on the included 32GB SD card. Obs targeted at kids with the built in filters but there’s something about the immediateness that’s fun about it. Wonder how hackable it is?

The subscription economy, frankly, sucks.

We’re told repeatedly that it’s just the price of one coffee a month, but the combined cost of every single tool, service, app and game demanding one coffee a month becomes the equivalent of paying for enough caffeine to poison even the strongest constitution.

https://joanwestenberg.medium.com/the-subscription-economy-sucks-5324f402491a#7451-d71594e3b06a

t_i_m,
@t_i_m@mastodon.social avatar

@Daojoan one aspect of it that I dislike in particular is that it’s not viable for casual users. I used to have a Photoshop license from a company that closed down. I’d use it for a random thing here and there, but I’d never pay the current prices for such tiny things. So now I don’t use it at all, and I was comfortable enough with it that I miss it sometimes.

@paulrickards as your post shows up right above a post by @colossal, I wonder: have you ever submitted your work to them? If not, you should! If you have, well, what are they waiting for?!
The fact that you’re using vintage pen plotters you repaired yourself adds a great layer to the amazing artwork.
I’d submit your work, but feel like it’s not my place necessarily.

@bart I feel like at the time there weren’t (and still really isn’t) mainstream means of payment that would have easily moved those revenues to the edges of the network.
It probably doesn’t exist also because similar large companies (e.g. PayPal) don’t make it easy because they like the centralized model too.

Rapper Meek Mill is wondering out loud if Africans have access to streaming music apps like Spotify, and if so, if they listen to his music.

There aren't enough stories about the Africans working at big tech companies, but there are a lot of us. There are many Ghanaians, South Africans, Kenyans, and Nigerians 🙋🏿‍♂️, working in tech.

I often remind folks that Nigerian 7th grade math curriculum includes binary, octal, hexadecimal, statistics and data, algebra, and geometry.
