A lot of the accounts you follow and interact with on here are not Mastodon accounts!

For example, @theatticdwellers is a PeerTube account, @Iancylkowski is a Pixelfed account, @rstv is an OwnCast account.

There are dozens of different server types on here, not just Mastodon servers. When you talk about this place, it's not enough to call it "Mastodon", because it's more than just that.

That's why people call this place "The Fediverse", because that name covers all server types. :fediverse:

    I remember , great GUI for the time although I never adopted it, but did use Ventura publisher and AmiPro intead of Aldus and Word, respectively, on Windows

    Everything else though, yah, very, very similar history for myself except for the Apple 🍏 stuffs; like you, I'm quite proudly Mac stupid.

    Dave Karpf, an academic, takes it apart. He also testifies as a particiant in the peer review system. Worth your time.

    I gave it a listen. My bandwidth here atm on the mountain is total crap over 4G (WISP broadband coming soon though).

    I liked it enough to d/l it - which means I like it a lot. Love the cinematography with the warm colors too.

    Don't we have a PeerTube server here at SDF? Hostname wasToobnix or something IIRC? We should get him setup with an account so he can clone it there.

    Dick, you have to remember, you're talking about little snot nosed children.

    When you relentlessly counter and insist, shredding their emotional outbursts at the dinner table - they run off to their room and you can finish your supper in peace, satisfied that they've painted themselves further into the corner of isolation because they actually have nothing but an insult.

    Ask them why it's okay for them to use JavaScript - created by Brendan Eich. Those hypocrites have no answer.

    Since some people have asked me, here's a quick thread on initial experience comparison between Bluesky and the fediverse. It's important to note that this comparison is somewhat absurd by default because Bluesky is still tiny & unproven, but there's interest so I'm happy to share what I've observed. Also, I don't get into protocol differences because honestly who cares. So:

    I don't think people are realising the danger the Fediverse is in.

    The only thing stopping corporations and VCs taking over this place is that the Fediverse is spread out on many different servers, which makes it very difficult to purchase.

    If most of the Fediverse ends up on mastodon.social, which is now a strong possibility, there will be nothing to stop most of it being sold to Musk or Zuckerberg or whoever.

    The bigger mastodon.social becomes, the more likely a buyout is to happen.

    For starters 'Fedi.Tips', I don't do , but just going by the timbre of your post I'm responding to here, I gotta say I'm pleasantly surprised.

    I rarely boost anything of yours coz it usually sounds like you're a masto cheerleader instead of a Fediverse advocate - no offense, just my personal observation.

    Second - it's exactly what Eugen wanted for his "Brand", and he's caused enormous damage by creating a deprecated, legacy monolithic silo.

    i forget who it was that said "a single timeline is unsustainable" (aaron parecki?) but i'm feeling more like the real cardinal sin is publishing to a single profile. i don't mind reading everything in a single view, although making lists certainly helps. it's the publishing that annoys me. i almost never want to send a post to all of my followers. and this goes doubly for replies. i often want to reply within a specific context and only optionally tell my followers about it.

    Oh! Not Fedi, strictly speaking, but there is "Circles" - (circu.li). It's s matrix thing and I've been following progress, but lost enthusiasm when i brought up gplus (old hat here as well) and they said "recursive circles were to hard for them to implement".

    Then, what's three point I thought. That's where the power of Circles really comes into play.

    Did you see that IMDb thing that guys doing with his fork yet? He's gonna keep it a softfork too.
