The lake is so immense and the opposite shore seems so far away. And we are just little geese. But if we stick together and swim with determination, we can cross this lake.
The world can sometimes make us feel boxed in. If you start to feel down, just follow the example of this turtle: keep your head up, and take one small step at a time.

Here I am 7 years ago with my high school English teacher, Mrs. Smith. When other teachers were shunning me for being metal, she embraced me. She celebrated the gore in my lyrics and stories and encouraged me to be myself.
25 years later, as a writer and international speaker, I wanted to thank her. So I looked her up. And she happened to be visiting Portland, so we had coffee.
She said this is what teachers live for. This was a good day.
This is probably the best thing I ever posted on Twitter. The memory is pretty dear to me; I'm sharing it here so it still exists somewhere if that place collapses.
