  • vertana,

@Lockdownyourlife I had to scroll down your feed to see the question and immediately laughed. They did get techy quickly.

Anydesk is fine, but no, technical folks would never recommend it. It really does depend on your use case.

MacOS has built in software in iMessage. Windows has built-in software to do it called Quick Assist. These are simple and useful with no setup.

RustDesk if you don’t mind a slight learning curve on how to install and connect is probably your safest option (if you’re concerned about privacy or security) and I believe it’s cross platform (if you have to connect to a Mac from Windows).

Genshin 4.2 just dropped last night and people are already posting on Reddit with fully maxed out Furina. Like dude enjoy the game for a second lol. I haven’t even started Fontaine because I am smelling the flowers in Sumeru still haha

    vertana,

@danirabbit Nobody min maxes like Gacha game addicts. We’ll never guess how much they spent to do that. Whatever we think? It’s higher.

Not a bad day. I managed to get the new Epyc server built and sorted out how to run containers without root, then got mobilizon (https://meetups.infosec.exchange) up and running in a container on the new server. I am 98% complete with moving video.infosec.exchange there - peertube’s config files are dramatically different between a bare metal install (what the current site uses) and a containerized version - it’s been tedious to sort everything out, but I think I’m close.

Next will be moving pixel, elk, matrix, infosec.pub, and infosec.place to it. Matrix will be next as it’s running low on disk space.

@jerry @compuguy Podman is mostly compatible, but I’ve hit a lot of snags using it and that seems to be the general consensus among the people I talk to also. I tend to just use Docker everywhere even if their licensing did get a bit screwy.

@Em0nM4stodon You’re not wrong, but I hate this description lol. When I do get to upgrade the hardware Ghost in the Shell style?

@Em0nM4stodon Too late to explore the west. Too early to replace my eyes with fully functioning AR replacements with color correction, infographical HUD built in, and auto-light protection. Juuust in time to sign up for Facebook and then later delete it.

Oof so tonight’s gender expression workshop was just like, a symptom of how Kaiser approaches trans voice. I’m not going to sit here and say my voice is perfect, but talking about vocal anatomy and spectrographs and waveforms for the majority of a crash course is absolutely not how I would teach trans voice. And the SLP they brought in was a cis man who can’t really do a female voice. There was only maybe 15 minutes of actual applicable voice work

    vertana,

@danirabbit Gotta say, following you is educational. Never occurred to me there would be whole workshops and such around this topic. Kinda just assumed most do what my friends do - wing tf out of it and ask us for feedback lol.

    Announcing MAID QUEST!❤️

...a "choose your own adventure" roleplaying game, in which a sweet, industrious maid will bow to your will🫦

She's a staple of the neighborhood, diligently helping everyone... and she's got another dirty job on the side (shh!)😏

Shortly, I'll post a short guide video on how to participate!😉

The game will take place on my Fansly and I'll post brief updates here on Mastodon!

    vertana,

@jerry I’m developing a fediverse mobile client right now. The worst part? SQLite and CoreData. (Ok, SwiftUI is a runner up)

I made some video game software back as a teenager. The worst part? SQL.

    melroy, (edited ) to kbin
    @melroy@mastodon.melroy.org avatar

Mbin is alive and kicking! A community-focused fork of Kbin, which has tons of improvements, features and bug fixes. Mbin is a federated content aggregator, voting, discussion and microblogging platform.

Feel free to host your own instance on the fediverse! If you are already running Kbin; migrating is straightforward towards Mbin and experience the benefits yourself.

    https://github.com/MbinOrg/mbin

    vertana,
    vertana,

@melroy @kreynen Fair enough, so long as there is a differentiator when devs hit the API so we can have some mbin vs kbin detection for the one-offs it shouldn’t be a problem. It would be just like supporting the differences between Mastodon and Calckey.

    vertana,

@melroy @kreynen Right now, it’s been made pretty easy for me. All the services have different API endpoints, so if it has some X API call that returns data in Y format we can assume it’s Z service. In the case of forks like mbin? Most of those share the API with upstream, so the same calls work. In the case of mbin specifically? I would expect some kind of API endpoint to get the server info and one of the fields should define the software running on it. Then I could say “hit the endpoint”, discover its kbin or fork, the ask server for info and drill it down to exactly mbin (in the event your API differs down the road or you just want to uniquely identify).

    vertana,

@melroy @kreynen Here is an a really good example of an endpoint to surface that. Lemmy has a /site endpoint that surfaces basic server info and such a place is the perfect spot for an identifier. Not sure if kbin has an endpoint like this, but you could just tack on an extra field and devs could check for existence and content of that field.

This site is already aimed at /site, so you can scroll down a tiny bit and press “try it” to see the /site response.

    https://lemmy.readme.io/reference/getsite

    vertana,

@melroy @kreynen if you add a field to an existing endpoint and make it an optional field, then it should be doable to fit right in. Existing kbin clients would continue rolling along and (presumably) getting your kbin-conforming features.

Extra niceness mbin adds? Clients can check for that extra field and start down the road of loading the “if mbin, make sure we load the mbin extension on top of kbin module for those extras”.

    vertana,

@melroy @kreynen Not sure what the plan is, but just in case this is an issue: When I visit the first link from a few days ago (https://kbin.melroy.org/nodeinfo/2.0) it is no longer found. Your new 2.1 link is but it’s missing all the information from the previous link (such as the specifying mbin name).

I just hit these real quick on Safari iOS, so it could also be that if you’re sure I’m mistaken.
