Now online - my piece for Traveller about memories sparked by my old, expired passport:
"But as I delighted in the crisp, unblemished potential of my new passport, I felt an unexpected fondness for its slightly worn predecessor. I just got an ad on Instagram from Apple that has them shoving a bunch of things we love (music, games, art) and squeezing it with a hydraulic press into an unrecognisable smush that turns into an iPad. Incredible optics, what a metaphor for the crushing effect big tech has on anything fun and creative whenever it gets involved.

This is the best fucking mochi I ever had and also the best food I had in my whole trip back so far. Fifty tales duck egg kaya mochi taco. The mouthfeel is amazing. The taco crunches, then the mochi is soft and squishy, then the filling is rich, runny, savory sweet. I'm gonna miss this so much when I go back to the U.S. 😭
If your oven was really smart it would have an event log so one could reconstruct at what time the dish was put in the oven, when one forgot to start a timer. I actually made a kitchen flight recorder already, but its battery life is shite, it needs to be wired in.
