More than half of all women and nearly one-third of all men in America have experienced sexual violence. The rate of sexual violence is even higher for people of color.

Tonight in #nyc, the Empire State Building’s tower lights will shine teal and green to honor Sexual Assault Awareness Month and season 25 of “Law & Order: SVU.”

This week marked the 7 year anniversary of the fourth browser shipping CSS Grid.

Can you believe it’s been SEVEN years!?

How long where other methods the dominate best practice?

  • HTML tables = 7 years
  • Fixed-width layouts with CSS = 7 years
  • Responsive layouts with floats & media queries = 7 years

WOW, so... if you aren’t using CSS Grid for most of your layouts, why not?

(I counted years when I made this timeline in 2018, at https://youtu.be/jBwBACbRuGY?t=1400)

It seems silly but mastodon’s retreat from the language of “toots” and now even “boosts” ( they’re “reblogs” in the official app now ) is exactly the same dumb-as-rocks discarding of a recognizable brand that Xitter is doing

zeldman,
@zeldman@front-end.social avatar

@glyph In principle, I would normally agree with you. But, personally, I find the whole “toots” thing objectionable. It actually kept me from being an early adopter of Mastodon. Fart humor. Genteel euphemisms. Bleh! The worst. “Posts” is accurate and portable. In a federated universe, using widely accepted terms across multiple platforms makes sense; calling federated posts “toots” if they originate on a Mastodon instance seems kind of limiting, given the wider context. JMO YMMV

Heal an ailing web

Leadership, hindered by a lack of diversity, has steered away from a tool for public good and one that is instead subject to capitalist forces resulting in monopolisation. Governance, which should correct for this, has failed to do so.
