Thanks for asking! The article is misleading.

See https://automattic.com/2024/02/27/protecting-user-choice/ and https://www.tumblr.com/staff/743510217982083072/hi-tumblr-its-tumblr-were-working-on-some.

IMO, it’s a positive approach to a complex issue: AI, public content, and creator rights.

By sharing a private work conversation out of context before we were ready to announce the initiative, the leaker cast a negative light on the company, and—worse—shone an unfair spotlight on my colleagues.

I don’t speak for the company—that’s what the links are for.

‘If there was ever a moment when the obvious, catastrophic, imminent risk of trusting Big Tech intermediaries to sit between you and your customers or audience, it was now. This is not the moment to be "social first." This is the moment for POSSE (Post Own Site, Share Everywhere), a strategy that sees social media as a strategy for bringing readers to channels that you control.’

“Pluralistic is… an experiment in retaining control over my destiny—but not my work. Rather than hitching my ability to reach an audienceindieweb a platform that can be enshittified at the whim of a mercurial, infantile billionaire or their venal, callous shareholders, Pluralistic is published web-first, on a site I control, and then syndicated to every platform that matters to me.” @pluralistic https://pluralistic.net/2024/02/20/fore/#synthesis

“LLMs are excellent at reworking stuff you’ve written—summarizing content, adjusting it to a particular reading level, helping you craft a suitable conclusion for an article or talk based on your existing content. They are not fact machines. Furthermore, they can’t replicate or replace your unique perspective on a subject and that’s the very humanness that makes your writings, talks, and other forms of communication worthy of our time.” – @Aaron
