My Top of the 2010s (2023 Edition)

(Originally published in July 2023)

Now that I’ve done one for the 2020s, it’s time to go one step back and look at my first full-length decade of anime.

Runner Up: : A banner year for Gen Urobuchi, Psycho-Pass is in the different direction in terms of genre and presentation but still asks similar questions to Fate/zero in terms of what humanity wants - and what it’s willing to sacrifice to get that. Set in a future where surveillance is all-pervading and criminal potentiality has been reduced to a number, the case of the week first half of the series is quite strong, demonstrating the different ways this society views violence and how such a system impacts everyone, from the common citizen to those working within it.

As someone who used to live in Cleveland Circle, I would not have believed you if you told me that 25 years later, the B and C branches would be in the best condition on the entire system.

I attended the first - it was a good, useful experience to learn more about the various projects collaborating through . I’m going to be on vacation this second time so I will unfortunately not be there, but, I recommend it to developers - they have tickets at more accessible price points. I look forward to hearing about outcomes and catching up on the notes when I’m back! https://mastodon.social/@fediforum/111019815056382897

The most important part in English:

Past weeks articles of heise online (https://heise.de) got more visits via than via #X/. There are a few effects in it (we're re-sharing some articles in the on the weekend, so that brings extra visits and last Friday our twitter-bot did not work), but the trend seems clear: While Mastodon/the remain stable, the visits via X are decreasing now.

The one-year anniversary of the is still some time in the future, maybe Mastodon overtakes X as traffic source for us completely until then?

Are there any good "feminist" #anime out there? It doesn't necessarily have to have overt philosophically #feminist themes (but it def can), just anime that have well-written, well-rounded leading women characters.

A lot of the anime I consume has mostly hypersexualized women characters (I don't go out of my way for that, it seems like it's just kind of a staple of the medium). For instance, I really like shonens, but they can be super fan-servicey. I'd like to shake that up.

I know there are some great Miyazaki characters, but other than that, I'm not aware of many others. #Recommendations are very welcome.

EDIT: I wasn't expecting so many replies! 0.o Looks like there are some awesome recommendations here, thank you all so much! ❤️

Might I suggest Psycho-Pass, if you enjoy police dramas in a high-tech future? The first season storyline follows newly-minted Inspector Akane Tsunemori who, over the course of the plot, grows to eventually replace her boss. In the beginning she is somewhat timid because she is new, but grows in courage and capacity to make difficult decisions.
