"The FBI released new data last week showing that violent crime is down in America, but that hate crimes are up. This is completely at odds with right-wing narratives about the United States, which portrays surging violence in lawless 'Democrat-run' cities. Instead, the data show a different picture: violence is down, except against the very social groups that are targeted by right-wing tropes and the MAGA movement."

“Watching as professional crybabies like Ben Shapiro tried to get people to boycott “Barbie” because one of the actresses in the film (Hari Nef, who played Doctor Barbie) is trans, and seeing that has absolutely no effect on the film’s success demonstrates that the Bud Light and Target controversies and capitulations only became big deals because Bud Light and Target responded to the outrage as though it were genuine.”

Because I think it’s so important for every American citizen to be fully aware of these revelations, I’m providing gift versions of three articles. This means you can read them without running into the Times or Post paywalls."

There is no pretending any more that Twitter is anything other than a far-right social network headed by a CEO who revels in chaos and is platforming extremism. So why are news organisations still on it? Why is anyone who considers themselves to have liberal values still on it?"

"He is from a part of the country where your nemesis will smile at you and promise to pray for you, where people will quickly submit that they 'love the sinner but hate the sin,' where one hand can hold a Bible while the other holds a shackle. He is from a place where people use religion to brand their hatred as love so that they act on it cheerfully and without guilt."

Dan Rather notes that in Georgia Saturday, Trump mocked Biden's stutter, and the crowd roared with delight. He quotes John Hendrickson, a reporter who stutters:

“More than Trump’s ugly taunt, one thing stands out to me about these moments: the sound of Trump’s supporters laughing right along with him. This is a building block of Trumpism. The man at the top gives his followers permission to be the worst version of themselves."

As Judd Legum reports, when Mika Westwolf,a 31-year old Indigenous woman, was killed in a hit-and-run incident in Montana in March, authorities asked if she was a drug user or alcoholic.

This weekend, white nationalist Sunny White, who has named her children Aryan and Nation, was charged with this killing. Turns out White is a heavy drug user whose car was stewn with drugs and drug paraphenalia.

'Phonemic paraphasias' —the substitution of non-words for words that sound similar—are not normally seen until a patient enters the moderate to severe stages of Alzheimer’s.

Some examples of Trump’s non-words: Beneficiaries becomes 'benefishes.' Renovations become 'renoversh.' Pivotal became 'pivobal.'"

Lucian K. Truscott says that Trump is openly announcing his plan to build "camps" and round up undesirables to place in this camps if he's elected president, because he thinks this rhetoric will energize voters.

He notes that when Hitler became German chancellor, he began building concentration camps and rounding up the "vermin" who were infesting the clean, healthy German people.

As Mark Sumner states, the media are intent on making Biden's age (he's THREE YEARS OLDER than Trump) the "but her emails meme" of the 2024 election cycle.

I've said it before and will say it again: the media are a huge part of what's wrong with the US today and what's threatening the very existence of democracy. And I'm not talking just about the right-wing media as I say that.

Donald Trump and his enablers represent an extraordinary threat to democracy. This industry, which prizes objectivity above all else, is incapable of accurately covering an election where one candidate is a normal politician and the other is a dishonest, corrupt insurrectionist."
