🍕🚀 Your browser experience, just like your favorite pizza, should be fully customizable to suit your tastes. And at Vivaldi, your feedback is the secret sauce that makes it all possible! 🌟

But like any great recipe, sometimes the ingredients don't quite blend as intended.

After the release of Vivaldi 6.6 on Android, our efforts to unify menus and toolbars led to unintended consequences.

📝 Get a rundown of what happened after the release of Vivaldi 6.6 on Android, where we turned your feedback into meaningful action. 👇🏻

@Vivaldi But isn't it obvious, but with even (!) a reload button in the omnibox, a swipe to refresh the page should be optional? What is there to discuss here, this is a must have problem. It has been indirectly touched upon many times on the forum, including in English.

As for the side gestures that duplicate the "back" and "forward" buttons, judge for yourself from this screenshot, can you use them? Add to that the enabled system-wide gestures. Triple overlay! Triple - and not only on this forum. So, they should be made optional too, they are only useful for people who use underscreen- or osd-buttons, not gestures for firmware. I mean, it just needs to be done, otherwise the discussion will drag on for another 5 years.

@Vivaldi I apologize for the possible harshness, but please pay attention to this thread. The request is about to be 4 years old. The request is as simple as 2 cents. Kiwi, Cromite, Firefox - have import/export of bookmarks, and android/Vivaldi - do not. I don't know why the most simple and everyday things can't be done in a week or a month. But I'm afraid it's the same story with gestures.

In any organization, many people share what they’d like to see as the intentions of the design.

As these people use their influence to define the outcome of the design, they are, in effect, designing. There’s an old saying, everyone thinks they are a designer. Well, everyone who participates in the rendering of their intention is a designer, using this definition.

@mariusz I find the idea of Silent Design, from Gorb and Dumas in 1987 a much more useful and eloquent explanation than Spool's (clickbaity and obfuscating) 'everyone is a designer'. I've also found it lands better with non-Designers

@edeverett @mariusz I'd love to check it out but it's behind a paywall. A quick web search didn't find anything. You know of anything else?

Throwaway prototyping is a software development approach that involves rapid creation of a prototype with the understanding that it will be discarded after use. The primary goal of throwaway prototyping is to provide a tangible representation of the app functionality early in the development process, allowing stakeholders to visualize and interact with the proposed system.

Love how the instructions for this Gotega USB cd drive say to plug directly into the back of the computer, but it has the shortest cord in existence... I can't even reach to put the drive on top of the tower or on the ground 🤬🤬talk about sh**y #productDesign

paul,
@paul@fedi.nlpagan.net avatar

@toplesstopics Not even to mention that most laptops only have USB on the left and right, so that back of the computer is also a bit of a fail. I hate stupid short cable-makers too.

Users are like kids at Christmas. They say they really want this one thing, but that one thing won’t keep them happy for long.

What will make them happy? Solving their unspoken problems, the problems they can’t quite articulate. And the best way uncover them is to ask really good questions.

How can we make the case for slowing down to speed up when we are already going slow, and when shutting things down and starting over is not an option?

The world’s current methods of manufacturing have become big drivers of the climate crisis – might Products of Place lead to one of the answers we’ve been looking for?"

I don’t have to decide for one path, topic or passion. I can be a product designer, interested in climate change, sustainability and our environment, and combine all this to work in green tech. 🌱👩‍💻

How do you combine your skills and passion?

marina,
@marina@toot.community avatar

@andycarolan Sounds like you found a good way to combine your passion for environment with your skills. That's awesome. And I am sure that it will have positiv impact. Every little thing we do counts.
What was your favorite project so far?

andycarolan,
@andycarolan@social.lol avatar

@marina Definitely! I would like to do more of this type of project as I feel people take more notice when illustrations are used, especially eye catching ones!

My favourite project so far is the Behavioural Heuristics one that I did with Whistlejacket for WRAP. It addresses how human behaviour works in the context of environment and sustainability. https://www.andycarolan.com/work/wrap-behavioural-heuristics

One of my favourite websites for mindless inspiration-scrolling — leManoosh. What’s yours? (lemanoosh.com)

It’s a Pinterest-like infinite image gallery that posts various interesting industrial design-related images without any needless articles and all that. Everything is pretty well-tagged in case you’re looking for something specific.
