The slowly deflating #CommercialRealEstate bubble continues. People are just not that interested to go back to the office.
This building in a suburban #SanJose office park was occupied by Nio, the Chinese carmaker, who did not renew their lease in October 2023. Without a new tenant, the building went into foreclosure with $25M of outstanding debt.
@EverydayMoggie@samiamsam It’s not easy to do it because you need a. window access and b. nearby plumbing. Office buildings usually have huge floor spaces that are far from windows, and have plumbing concentrated around the toilet/kitchen areas on the floor.
Not saying it can’t be done. But it’s likely to end up with housing units around the perimeter of each floor, with the central areas walled off.
Yeah, there are definitely some things that will have to be overcome. I imagine it's possible to extend the plumbing. Maybe the interior of the building could contain things like laundry rooms and storage lockers (apartment buildings always need more storage), or even bike parking, or on-site exercise facilities.
San Jose may have the lowest "Average Daily Vehicle Miles Traveled Per Capita", but what does that have to do with its VTA?
Valley Transit Authority has, by its own admission, the worst performance of any public transit agency in California (using the accepted metric "fair box recovery rate").
Also, many of us telecommute, and others certainly don't get very far very fast on our clogged roads.
