if you can't be in a coalition with people you disagree with on at least a few things, you can't build a coalition big enough to accomplish anything in the United States or defeat rising fascism.
@TonyStark Most people don’t live their lives that way at all or if they do, they’re very lonely and probably can’t hold meaningful work. Why people apply that model to public things is a weird mystery.
@heidilifeldman sometimes it's worth to imagine if he - excuse me, his wife - hung a BLM-Flag or an Antifa-Flag on his property. How would the reaction be?
What is the werewolf gut microbiome like? And what happens to it when a were shifts form? (Do humans get copious diarrhoea/purge themselves right after shifting? And what happens to the gut contents if a werewolf gorges on meat right before shifting back to human?) What about parasites in raw meat, eg. trichinosis?
And are xanthine alkaloids (like theobromine, found in chocolate) as toxic to werewolves as they are to canids?
@cstross There was a mediocre werewolf romance movie called Blood and Chocolate where one of the werewolves was a chocolatier and they completely avoided this topic, like cowards.
@jwz@cstross I broke down the screenplay for that film to do a VFX budget, what feels like a million years ago. I did a lot of laughing and eye-rolling reading that. 😂
Bin ja nicht so der Analogtelefonkram-Sammler, aber an diesem äusserst aparten Schmuckstück konnte ich nicht vorbei gehen… Eine originale Brokathaube für den grauen Bundespost-FeTAp 611. 🤩
"The U.S. Department of Justice-including the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, an appointed U.S. special counsel and the solicitor general, all of whom were involved in different ways in the criminal prosecutions underlying these cases and are opposing Mr. Trump’s constitutional and statutory claims — can petition the other seven justices to require Justices Alito and Thomas to recuse themselves not as a matter of grace but as a matter of law." #SCOTUS#alito
What a curiously dispassionate post on The Verge about their parent company signing a deal with OpenAI. It’s interesting that they posted about it in a way that lumps it together with the other deals and there’s no statement from The Verge’s famously opinionated leadership about what this deal means for publishing, journalism, and the open web.
Is there a good resource or book for learning about some of the details of how webservers work?
For example if I want an IP address on a intranet to be a webpage that people on that intranet can go to... how would I set that up from scratch. Let's say I have a machine with a static IP on the local net... (but what I really also need to understand is how a static IP is established locally, a DNS?)
Maybe the dream book or resource doesn't exist. But I ask anyway.
I am assuming this is all because you are curious and want to learn the nitty gritty details, or want to teach about it.
If on the other hand, you are just trying to setup a private web server on your LAN to share data, you can probably download a specific Raspberry PI distribution and follow a few page README. Something like Internet in a box maybe:
During a group photo with greeters on the PHL tarmac a reporter shouted a question at President Biden about whether he'd serve four more years or hand over power to VP Harris. He replied: “You're not hurt are you? Are you okay? Did you fall on your head or something?”
@mjausson@petes_bread_eqn_xls Of course not, she's just digesting what she hears through the Fox News/conservative talk radio/etc. pipeline... They throw stuff like that out constantly.
@mjausson She thinks that Biden is not physically / mentally healthy enough for the job and that Democrats make everything about DEI, so stepping aside for a Black woman is his secret plan.
Each one of these acts is intended to tell fascists it’s ok to enjoy and get used to pressing the jackboot against the neck of America just a little harder.
It looks like the jury instructions in the Trump Manhattan case will soon be available in transcript form. When they are available I plan to analyze them.
Jury instructions are key. Not everything bad or immoral is a crime. To be convicted of a crime, the prosecution has to present evidence beyond a reasonable doubt to prove each element of a specific crime.
Because of how complicated this charging document is (predicate crimes for predicate crimes) the jury instructions will give the roadmap.
On the one hand, I understand the argument that poor physical notes could, by their being physical, confer a greater sense of authority to the notetaker/other jurors, and a disagreement on the facts could lead to more hung juries.
On the other hand, that strikes me as, by default, lending more weight to the confident juror in place of the meticulous and attentive one, and leaving all at a bit of a loss.
@WhiteCatTamer@godzero@Teri_Kanefield Well, your argument is now the prevailing wisdom pretty much everywhere (including NY), where notes are permitted.
