“Light trucks” and SUVs need to be taxed way harder. There’s way too many people driving around in fucking massive cars for no reason. They pollute more, they wear our roads more, they are more dangerous to others, there needs to be fewer of them. There needs to be fewer cars in general but there really needs to be fewer large cars

@danirabbit I think if they modified license requirements such that cars that have a hood that is 4.5+ feet off the ground that you need a Class D+ in order to drive it, which would require X amount of supervised hours driving one and driver’s ed (because while driver’s ed is highly encouraged now, it’s not actually required in some places!), you’d knock a lot of these off the road. Currently the classes depend upon the vehicle’s weight/cargo.

The modern right is purely reactionary: every position a Democrat or someone on the left takes results in them taking the opposing stance (cutting freaking cancer funding, cozying up to Russia, hello?).

But polls consistently show that progressive policies are very popular!

You’re not going to win these voters yourself or by befriending Republicans; your own voters have to talk to their friends about how their lives were helped to make any headway there.

Awake early for a change bc I am in so much pain that I could chew thru my own intestines, but I can't bend that far. I just took OTC pain meds, but this is ridiculous. I can't be on pain meds 24/7, I might as well just give up and put a bullet thru my brain (also not an option, the sight of blood makes me puke).

There must be SOMEthing people do to distract themselves? What? Pick fights with the cat? (Not recommended, he has WAY more pointy fings). UGH.

Maybe resting in a warm bath will help, especially if you have some epsom salts. Good book or a movie cued up on a tablet wouldn’t go amiss, either.

One strategy is responding to a compliment with “That’s so nice of you to say!” because then I’m not calling them a loon for complimenting me and so making it awkward and confrontational and about my neuroses, I’m thanking them for something that they truly didn’t need to do and so was nice and which makes them feel good so that they do that to other people, BUT I don’t reaaaaaaallly have to accept the compliment in that moment if I’m not ready for it.

The Biden administration announced last week that they’re investing $78 million into 19 clean energy projects in rural communities from Alaska to Alabama.

The funding from the infrastructure law will be used to install everything from solar and batteries to power lines and heat pumps.

And I wish more people payed attention to this sort of thing. Going to be hard to protest anything on a fried planet.

@CaseyL @StillIRise1963 I don’t think it’ll be that one-sided, but I fully expect the Gazans to be significantly worse off under a Trump presidency, with far fewer avenues of stopping the slaughter, and a lot of time, effort, attention and money will be burned up saving protesters from literally being killed that could’ve gone to Gazans.

Well, I got my first white supremacist reply from the fediverse after posting an article about Elon from Flipboard.

I reported and blocked the account. I also looked at the instance admin's account and it's clear he's also a white supremacist. So that instance will be blocked on flipboard.com and flipboard.social as well as shared with other instance admins as a problematic instance for them to take action if they also deem appropriate. Took all of 2 minutes to help make the fediverse a bit better for everyone.

And the best thing is that anyone in the fediverse can do this too. Decentralized moderation FTW.

@mike @valis01 @avlap2 Thank you. I appreciate that you rightly see it as a weighty decision but one that must be made. Placing the onus upon the users to screen out trolls and honest shitheads that can make new accounts within seconds makes Mastodon no better than Bluesky and puts marginalized people at unique risk; blocking instances that take technical know-how and money to run keeps these users safe and presents a greater barrier to repeat issues.
