Amazon is filled with garbage ebooks, often a result of keyword scrapers finding trending topics, and then so-called publishers using AI and cheap ghostwriters to generate books. "If, as they used to say, everyone has a book in them, AI has created a world where tech utopianists dream openly about excising the human part of writing a book — any amount of artistry or craft or even just sheer effort — and replacing it with machine-generated streams of text," writes Vox's Constance Grady. Social bookmarking is a novel use case for #ActivityPub and I’m super excited about it. I heckin’ love links and lists! I wanna use them for everything.
Things like #Bookwyrm are cool, but it’s not what I want. I just wanna link the thing. Books, films, podcasts, articles, songs.., they’re all just resource recommendations which can be encapsulated by links.

We've successfully updated to version 0.7.3 of bookwyrm. Before the update, we created a backup to ensure that we don't lose too much in case anything goes wrong. Anyone have a guide to using #bookwyrm they like or have found helpful?
I've had a few friends sign up and mention they were a bit confused about getting started, finding people, finding/adding books, etc. Ideally something geared toward users who are familiar with the fediverse but still a bit new to it. #askFedi
@peoplelikedogs I would reccomend the guided tour on every #bookwyrm instance (found in the footer) as that was perfect for me the first time. Just follow up on what it says to continue the tour, and you should be good. If you have any more questions i would ask the admins/mods of the instance, or do this (asking for help), on online platforms like #mastodon or #lemmy.
