The-Man-Without-Eyes is a mighty messenger of the beings which are beyond gods. You can make a pact with him to empower Your Dark Lord, but what will be the prize?

My childhood collection of "choose your own adventure" style books.

I F'N LOVED Interplanetary Spy. So much so that I ended up writing and (poorly) drawing my own book. I should really try to track down the three that I'm missing one of these days.

This week we’re reading "Mountain Survival" during , book in the original series. Bonus is that I’m reading it from a special library edition, which makes it a hardcover! You just know the story is better because the cover won’t bend! 🙂

Me, it's the / pocket books. Special mention, CYOA #5 “The Mystery Of Chimney Rock” by Edward Packard. I think I was 4 then, when I saw the book on my father's shelves; published two years before I was born. LOL.

I got hook with CYOA and started writing my own CYOA stories. I wish I still have the notebooks I used for those stories so I can put them online!

I also remember how I let my classmates give feedback about my own CYOA, even explained to them how it works. After they've read all my works, it was only then I introduced them to the real CYOA books. (Sorry Edward! But, they probably won't read my own stories if I introduced the real CYOA first. bows) I also thought of submitting my works to CYOA!

Good ol' days!

Choose Your Own Adventure Leans into Gaming: "Shannon Gilligan, co-founder and publisher at Chooseco, noted that, excluding sales through Ingram, gift and toy stores recently took over from bookshops as the company’s top direct-sales channel. “Bookstores are carrying more games as well,” she added."

Repost from last year but also a great gift for the right person:

My friend David Ruzicka recommended "2120" by recently and I couldn’t stop reading/playing it.

https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/2120-george-wylesol/1140402430

"2120" is a graphic novel set up like a book / / old school PC .

In the same vein as Severance, Stanley Parable, or House of Leaves, nothing is as it first seems. "2120" is filled with suspense, horror, and corporate dread, which works well with Wylesol’s instruction manual-esque drawing style.

Do you want to play a game? I just found an old copy of Villains of Volturnus, a choose your own adventure style book and I thought it would be fun for us to go through it together. Each day, I'll post an image of the current story and a poll outlining our choices. This will be up for 24 hours then we'll repeat the process for the next step. I'll use the tag so if you want to play follow that tag.

This is a longshot, and perhaps will go nowhere, but I’ve been creatively drained lately. So rather than let these newly acquired skills go to waste, I’m going to try something. This is your chance. Do you have an idea for a or style that you don’t want to make? Come talk to me. We can talk ideas, implementation and how to get your story out there, and across to readers in the best way.

I have not practiced outside personal friend groups, but I can also, if wanted, provide narrative reviews or help with the actual writing of the game. I would say my strengths as a narrative consultant focus on high level aspects. Do you have enough characters? Are those characters distinct enough from each other? Are there pacing changes you can make? Things like that. That is also entirely optional, though. I'm happy to just write the twine code if you prefer.

Fucking new feature of our team meetings is a required Round Robin of “I’m excited about…” portion at the end, to bookend the “Who has an Uplift to share!?!” at the start. True to my nature, I didn’t offer an uplift and advised that, “I’m not excited about anything”. That returned an uneasy silence from all… fuck ‘em. I barely get through the day, and excitement is something I avoid.

In honor of the Vuelta a España kicking off on Saturday, this week's selection is "Superbike" - .

Written by Edward Packard in 1992, it only has 12 endings, but the cover has a kid riding a flying bicycle over some cows. C'mon, you want to know how he got into that situation, right?

I like to joke that whenever the authors of vintage books ran into a storytelling challenge, they fell back on the trope of time travel. Didn't see it coming in a ninja book this week!

Not surprising when you recall that the first is "The Cave of Time" ⏳
