Ok reflecting back on the . I loved it! It was a good challenge both choosing countries / coins & getting it all written. My first thought was to make the posts shorter.... but they didn't end up any shorter, which I take as my own inability to compromise on information - & how fascinating everything is! One I learnt a lot writing was the Roman Denarius Fouree: https://coinofnote.com/19-b-c-rome-augustus-denarius-fouree/

Part 2 of my reflection. I love the personal connection you find with & the community. I wrote most of the posts in the weeks prior to the . This was fortuitous as my mother passed away early in April. But those connections made it a joy to re-read each post & share it. Today's is from day "D", , & a park open when my ancesters lived there: https://coinofnote.com/25-ore-token-denmark-dyrehavsbakken/

Apologies for many posts today - I was excited after the :) In any case, I also discovered another server I could log into & search for hashtags like & & see a whole bunch of posts I never saw before. I really wish the Fediverse had a simple way of seeing EVERYTHING posted anywhere on Mastodon with a particular hashtag!
(@FediTips do you know, will me sharing posts help me see future posts from those servers, or do I actually have to follow those accounts?)

CoinOfNote,
@CoinOfNote@historians.social avatar

@FediTips Interestingly, some of those posts were on Mastodon.social, and I follow people on that server - so why wasn't I already seeing posts tagged with say from accounts on that server when I DO already follow people on that server?

Congratulations to the West Indies on a great win in the today. The first time they have beaten in a Test Match in twenty years. It inspired me to work out just which countries are in the West Indies, where are they, and of course, to find a coin to share. Actually, rather than ending on the Vichy 2 francs, here is the coin which succeeded it. The same design was used before the war, which sees the reinstatement of Marianne, the cornucopia, and Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity).

A cornucopia on each side, lettering at top, value in middle with date below. Privy mark to right of date. If there is a B or C Mintmark it is in the gap between the two bases, below date. Script: Latin Lettering: LIBERTE-EGALITE FRATERNITE 2 FRANCS 1958 Engraver: Pierre-Alexandre Morlon

I have a load of Dad’s old coins and notes to sell.
Is there a good place online to try and identify and sell some of it or should I just check eBay?

I also found this death penny from World War One.
We’re pretty sure it’s not anyone in the family so no clue where he got it from. It’s bronze, about the size of a CD and surprisingly heavy!

COUNTERFEIT TOONIE COINS MAY BE CIRCULATING IN CANADA
An arrest and huge seizure of 26,000 allegedly counterfeit $2 coins in Quebec, and a second smaller seizure of the same dodgy coins in a northern Ontario city a few months later, suggests that a new counterfeit toonie variety is circulating across Canada

We found this Western European coin of about AD 1000 during investigations near Örebro the past weekend. It is rolled up but complete. Weight 1.05 g. Diameter 16 mm. The motif on the visible side is an equal-armed cross with four pellets. The many peck marks are indicative of the Viking Period bullion economy.

Yep, the Dirham Background Radiation pertains here too. I am submitting a paper soon where I argue that our volume figures for the dirham silver coin importation of AD 800-970 are drastically off. Because these coins are not mainly in hoards. They are thinly spread over every field south of River Dalälven.

@AimeeMaroux @antiquidons @histodons @mythology @Greenseer My Mars coin is pretty worn, a ! But an interesting story - From in 1718. A series of coins bearing the planetary gods minted 1715-1719 were emergency coins struck during a period of hard economic crisis (due to the King going to war with everyone and running out of money!) I feel @jamesthomson might appreciate this:

So y’all remember app (spin off from )? When you check in and earn , it animates them falling/flying/splashing around the screen.

The number of coins in the correlates to the number earned for that checkin.

Usually a checkin gets just a few coins. Sometimes bonuses will net 100+.

I had two checkins today with insane bonuses resulting in 600+ coins each. The app choked horribly trying to the animation!!
