Here, the @EUCommission resembles the worst multinational corporations — trying to evade its responsibilities by simply subcontracting its human right violations.
Several hundreds of MILLIONS € are being spent on this.
An International Court of Justice ought to look into this.
As the Dutch newspaper Trouw wrote this morning, this is only the first article on this topic.
More will come.
European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen has hinted that banning TikTok in the EU is not off the table.
Speaking at a debate ahead of the bloc’s 2024 election, von der Leyen said that the Commission was “the very first institution worldwide to ban TikTok on our corporate phones,” reports Politico, adding: “We know exactly the danger of TikTok.”

Gotta say that EC's messaging is quite confusing. Hope there'll be more follow-up soon.
Yesterday I attended a @commonsnetwork organized event in The Hague about #Government and building #DigitalCommons, and among the crowds of representatives of many different institutions there, there was A TON of interest for decentralized #SocialWeb technologies.
The successful #Mastodon and #PeerTube instances for #EU institutions run by @EDPS will be shut down on May 18th 😥
It seems that the #EuropeanCommission and #EVP have no interest in promoting independent, #bigtech-free and low-surveillance European platforms and thus a free and democratic discourse…
@joeo10@larkim There will be plenty of time to get angry when it comes to it, but what's the point of having @EU_Commission here if we don't give them the benefit of the doubt?
I also want the EU to continue to have its own instance, but if @EDPS won't continue to run social.network.europa.eu, I think it's best to focus our attention on convincing the accounts to stay in the fediverse and come back to an EU instance at a later date (probably run by another org, maybe the Commission itself).
Eh, what? Just as @EU_Commission is finally finding their voice here, the server is shut down? This makes zero sense, @EDPS. On the contrary, the Commissioners, MEPs, and other key people should be guided off the cesspool site they still linger around.
