Why is this elected official, paid by the American people, using his power to engage in #viewpointDiscrimination, and violate the #FirstAmendment rights of individuals and businesses that express ideas he doesn't personally agree with?
"Minnesota is poised to prohibit #bookbans in #schools and public #libraries... The law establishes... a 'Library Bill of Rights' and states that libraries cannot restrict access to material 'because of partisan or doctrinal disapproval.'"
They are using the premise of a #spiritualWar to pave the road for the #UnitedStates to become the #Christofascist#theocracy they so jubilantly pray for—and intimidating students protesting the violence in #Gaza and trying to claim campuses for their own brand of #Christianity is their latest battleground.
In the latest installment of Oklahoma's elected officials not having the necessary background to do their jobs, we have this:
The Satanic Temple plans to place ministers in Oklahoma schools if new bill becomes law
Of course Oklahoma legislators don't want those chaplains in schools. And, it apparently never occurred to them that allowing one religion means allowing ALL religions. I don't even think this is some misguided 1st Amendment challenge. It's just ignorance, ignorance that doesn't belong in public office. #Oklahoma#FirstAmendment#ReligiousFreedom#SatanicTemple
For people who claim to be the ultimate champions of the #Constitution, #Republicans sure do hate the Constitution. The federal #government cannot punish or discriminate against people for their beliefs or their speech. It doesn't matter if they're #citizens or not. If they're under the jurisdiction of the #UnitedStates, they benefit from all the protections enumerated in the Constitution. This latest move is a blatant violation of the #FirstAmendment.
Trump, at a rally in Waukesha, #Wisconsin, called for tougher action against campus protests & again suggested some of the protesters were paid actors. He called on college presidents to “remove the encampments immediately, vanquish the locals & take back our campuses for all of the normal students.”
For now, #Biden is taking a hands-off posture toward the unrest & has no plans to step up his involvement in escalating clashes between #police & #protesters, WH & campaign advisers said, even as #Trump looks to capitalize on the issue.
Speaking at a campaign event in #Wisconsin on Wed, #Trump derided the #protesters as “raging lunatics & Hamas sympathizers," & called on #Biden to “speak out” — accusing him of being “definitely against #Israel.”
Trump also took aim at #Columbia’s president, Minouche Shafik….
“The person that heads it up — a woman — she waited so long. She was so weak. She was so afraid. She was so bad.”
Like the #protesters, Biden believes that #Israel has inflicted too much carnage in #Gaza. Unlike some of them, he defends Israel’s sovereignty & recoils at the notion of Jews losing a homeland.
#POTUS#Biden is set to give a speech on May 7 at a ceremony commemorating the Holocaust.
#DouglasEmhoff, husband of VP #KamalaHarris, said at an event in New York on Wednesday that, "We’re in favor of the right to #protest. But when that crosses into #violence — when that crosse into calls for genocide, calls for Jews to be murdered, that’s completely unacceptable & must be stopped.”
"[#Biden] said he ran because of #Charlottesville.… Well, if the people that know Charlottesville, when you extend that statement, it’s a big hoax. Charlottesville is peanuts compared to what you’re looking at now."
#HouseRepublicans are seeking to unite their unruly majority around an evergreen #conservative cause, devising a strict response to the wave of pro-Palestinian protests….
Protesting has always been dangerous. It’s a constitutional right. But if one person crosses the line, cops use it as an excuse to brutalize everyone present.
Protect yourself. @CrimethInc has you covered (pun intended). Here’s a handy guide on how to stay safe in the streets.
Don’t get caught, stay safe, and smash the state!

I've been drawing strips for years about attacks on students' right to protest, yet strangely I've never been invited to give a TED Talk, speak at an "ideas festival," or pen a column for the Atlantic.
