I just realized it's my Mastoversary! I'm gonna name a couple fun things from this year:

You all sharing your art with me on

Beige.party Conference in Tampa! Thanks @Alice for arranging that!

Learning about all of you through the questions I have asked, I was gonna name a few specific ones, but then the list kept getting longer and longer, so suffice to say, It's something I've enjoyed a lot, and I appreciate everyone who's taking the time to respond.

Those few days where we all talked about the epic life and times of one John Mastodon.

I made a toot going over Eugen Rochko's various hairstyles, and he showed he was a good sport, and favorited the post. If I had done that on Twitter, Musky would have permablocked me.

A little extra shout out to all the Trans, Ace, and various other LGBTQ+ Communities who have answered my probing and somewhat intrusive questions with openness and kindness.

Getting to see all your faces with one of my favorite positivity cheerleaders @Mary625

A shout out to Beige.party administrator @theropologist for taking out the trash when necessary, not having to worry about whether something is gonna be done when the Hitler Youth show up is such a relief. Plus all the work he's done in general keeping the place up and running, so I could goof off with my friends.

OMG not having to see ads, the only time I see something for sale is dope art made by cool people that I'm actually happy to see!

All the beautiful photos and videos of nature with hilarious hashtags and of course, adorable animals

Alright, I was only going to do a few, but I did more. Honestly, the last couple days have been rough for me due to some personal issues, but making this list has helped me remember some great times, and that there will be great times in the future, so thanks!

I took these photos of a cool purple seed I happened upon while enjoying a walk through the local botanical gardens.
I’m counting this as my first contribution to .

Lunchtime train of thought...

  • Hey, that moss looks like a figure, reaching out

  • I should add a Santa hat

  • Hang on, it's the winter solstice isn't it? I should add antlers.

  • Hmm. That doesn't work with the Santa hat. Wonder if it would work in green.

  • Hmmm.

Goes down a bit of a solstice rabbit hole

  • Oh. I'm a day early for solstice.

  • Bah.

posts anyway

Getting ready to harvest and plant the Venus Flytrap seedlings. This year I am trying something different and working with live sphagnum moss. The idea is to share the water and help with water retention and PH. I won't be dropping the seeds straight into the moss as it seems that it would overtake the seedlings pretty easily, but trying it as a bedding type thing. The seedling container is a mini-greenhouse with a ventilated dome.

Just made the mistake of catching up with the news, waiting for the family to be ready to play a game.

Channeling my response via this ball of moss.

In this thread I shall post a few silly pictures of mosses, lichens, ferns, and mushrooms that have pleased me in recent walks around my garden and the PNW.

This first one is from my garden: a little clumpet of things growing on a lilac limb.

Checking in on the very small bog I planted mid-August. The first pic is what it looks like now, the last one is just after making it. There is a lot going on in there that I tried to show a bit with the center pics. Drosera (Sundew) seedlings have sprouted from flower stalks I tossed in there just to see what would happen and some of them are growing on the moss. For watering I just kind of flood it every few days, they seem to like that.

Purchased a sort-of-exotic new lens, trying to learn how to use it, haven’t quite got there yet. But these are still kind of pretty.

Me & my hiking friend saw only one other person out in the rains & trails, yesterday. Once you go deeper into the forest, the rain doesn't fall through the trees' canopy as much. The air smelled so good!

  • So I've got a new picture, but I think you need to be in a certain headspace for it to make sense

  • But your pictures never make s... OK... no matter... what is it?

  • I need you to think of that famous scene from alien, where the alien bursts out of John Hurt's chest

  • OK

  • Now I need you to think of a world where the main life forms are mossy trees

  • OK. Wait, what?

  • Tadaaaaaaa!!!

I mentioned walls of moss, but I am tragically unable to choose just one picture worth my delight at this short but intensely mossy path. You can breathe the green just looking at the pictures.

Same as the first image, but taken further along the path
