Milestone for floating offshore wind as world-first auction names winner and price
France has announced the winner of the world’s first commercial scale floating offshore wind auction which will see 250MW built off the coast of Southern Brittany in the country’s west.
"#Maryland Governor Wes Moore signed a bill aimed at reevaluating and potentially revising existing #OffshoreWind project plans, setting the stage for the state's goal of achieving 8,500 megawatts of offshore wind energy capacity by 2031."
"The 810-megawatt (MW) #EmpireWind 1 project will contribute to the state's goal of developing 9,000 MW of offshore wind power by 2035. Empire Wind 1 will connect into the transmission system for New York City.
The wind farm is scheduled to start producing power in 2026."
What Trump promised oil CEOs as he asked them to steer $1 billion to his campaign
"Donald Trump has pledged to scrap President Biden’s policies on electric vehicles and wind energy, as well as other initiatives opposed by the fossil fuel industry."
The press is still failing at covering Trump properly.
"Take that New Jersey rally where he pledged to block #OffshoreWind farms (he also promised to go after electric cars). This didn’t get much attention because of Trump’s praise for “Hollywood’s most famous cannibal,” as a Post headline writer succinctly put it. “The late, great #HannibalLecter is a wonderful man,” Trump declared. Try arguing that #ClimateChange should have been the lead of the story that day."
"The bill would instruct the state, on its own or with other states, to seek bids from #OffshoreWind developers to supply power to #Delaware; draw power from a project generating 800-1,200 megawatts – enough to power at least a third of Delaware’s electricity needs; [and[ pay no more than 110 percent of the average electricity price that consumers have been paying for electricity over the last three years."
"On Thursday, Trump held a private dinner at his Mar-a-Lago Club and resort with about 20 oil executives from some of the country’s biggest firms."
Meanwhile, the Biden administration has approved 19GW of clean energy to be built on federal lands, raised drilling fees and royalties, and is plugging abandoned oil wells that leak methane.
Proud to have my Yes to Wind sign, courtesy of Climate Action #rhodeisland, in my front yard!
This is the direction that the #climate movement needs to move in: to proactive solutions, not just problems; to being for things like #offshorewind as the necessary and urgent solution to the #climatecrisis.
@mattblaze After that chickenshit outfit Orsted bailed last year, #OffshoreWind is moving forward again in #NewJersey. The newest of the leases will be 40 miles out, so no one can bitch about their view 🙄. Personally, I love looking at the turbines — their motion is beautiful. #renewables
#Politicians have a skewed understanding of the effects of #offshorewind installations because the more positive studies are often behind paywalls & under-appreciated while the 'grey literature' which is more widely available is also often more negative.
This interesting research into the availability of research & how this effects conclusions about policy direction, has much wider implications for #governance than just the #green energy sector.
"The facility, 25 miles in the Atlantic off the #VirginiaBeach Oceanfront, will have 176 turbines capable of generating enough electricity to power up to 660,000 homes.
The more than $9 billion project is due to come on line in 2026."
"A federal court has rejected the appeal filed by a group of #Nantucket residents aimed at stopping the #VineyardWind#OffshoreWind energy project southwest of the island."
“At this point, there is no scientific evidence that noise resulting from offshore wind site characterization surveys could potentially cause mortality of whales,” NOAA states. “There are no known links between recent large whale mortalities and ongoing offshore wind surveys."
