When I first saw Hughes House, the 1898 home (now a museum) built by the Pacific Ocean near Port Orford, OR, I thought, "This is a place to grow up in, be a child in, run about and play in!"
And it is good to know that, at one time and for awhile, there was a family in this house, there were children, and they did run and play through this magical place.
Today I checked out a heron rookery nearby! My conservative count (already possibly incremented by my photos) was 15 herons, probably all fledglings — NO verified responsible adults.
I mean, would you not trust these faces to take care of themselves?
I learned something new about #oregon DMV law. If you buy a car, and don't register it, all your parking tickets go to the previous owner! And there is no way anyone can change that! The previous owner has to pay your parking tickets forever.
You can request a document from the DMV that shows you're not the legal owner anymore, it costs $4, and they never send it to you. You can request it again and pay another $4!
Maybe I'll just report the car stolen, since DMV still shows me as the owner.
"Clatsop County Public Health Alert: Multiple Reports of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP)
2024-05-28 18:50:39 PDT
There have been multiple reports of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning from eating mussels harvested in the area from the Washington border to Seal Rock State Recreation Site. Mussels picked since Saturday must be thrown away, as cooking or freezing them does not kill the toxins. Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning can be deadly, especially for children. Appropriate medical care can lessen the risk of death. Do not feed these mussels to pets."

As extractive “wildcrafting” has become popular, supposedly treaty-protected #Indigenous access to ancestral gathering sites has diminished, says Michelle Week (Sinixt, Arrow Lakes), who runs x̌ast sq̓it, an Indigenous foods farm near #Portland#Oregon.
“You have the privilege to go out and gather these things without fear of harassment, but my community, who’s native to this place, we just don’t have that luxury.”
Still processing photos, but got some decent shots of my first non-fleeting Bullock’s Orioles! She was particularly keen on getting her portrait taken and sat for quite some time. 🧡🖤
👀”At least 66 members of an anti-govt group founded by far-right militia figure Ammon Bundy have attempted to win local positions of influence in Republican party in #Oregon.
Out in the middle of nowhere is actually somewhere: it's a landscape surrounded by space, and within that space one can walk around outside in one's bathrobe -- or not even that if you please -- and not be seen by the neighbors.
You don't hear their TV or music. No loud cars, or sirens. No shouting, flashing lights, LED advertisements in your face.

We share our secrets and our thoughts with those who hold them gently in their hands and securely in their hearts.
These people are few. Even social butterflies who boast of being "people persons" with lots and lots of friends would be wise to watch with whom they share their innermost introspections.
Burton is an 85-pound, 3-year-old long-haired German Shepherd. Across his furry black and brown back, he wears a harness that reads, “Please pet,” and at his ceremony, many in attendance did just that.
