"We processed our huge clams harvest from our weekend village clam digging. We have extra clam meat for you. Froze them & I can drop off some freezer bags filled with them. I'll be in your area tonight, so let me know when you'll be around!"
My Indigenous friends are very kind, generous & thoughtful 💗 They bring my family seafood, year round.
@justafrog@CStamp@Gurre@OrionKidder For me, personally, Asian helping thing goes beyond my own family. I feel empathy for many different #SouthEastAsian communities & have always tried to help them, when they're suffering huge crises. I remember ppl asking me if I was Filipino, because I was trying to help typhoon victims overseas. No, I'm Teochew but I want to help them because they're part of larger, global Asian community.
Hey Graphics Folks, ever wonder who the “Phong” was that invented Phong shading?
Turns out his last name wasn’t Phong, that online picture of him isn't even him, and his death is connected to the U.S. military’s use of chemical weapons during the Vietnam War.
My dinner tonight is this braised soy & garlic soft tofu, with ground pork, button mushrooms & green onions. Eating with some plain rice congee. Softer foods, for my recovering gums, after 2 back to back molar extractions.
#CW - vid has graphic images of injuries on #African#Muslim students. The police didn't help stop the violent attacks.
More than a dozen men have attacked #InternationalStudents who were performing #Ramadan prayers at their #Gujarat University accommodation. Police say they are investigating.
Building a #business solo is no easy feat, and doing it full-time successfully is even tougher. But Priyanca Rao not only immigrated to the U.S. from India but built a sustainable business that is thriving today – and now she’s focusing the lens on other #FemaleEntrepreneurs.
Mohamad reiterated #Malaysia’s long-standing position that the #Palestinians deserve their own independent and #sovereign state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
"Malaysia remains committed, within its means and capabilities, to finding a lasting solution for the #Palestine - #Israel conflict, through all internationally recognised platforms," he said.
Bringing Chinese pork & cabbage soup plus grass jelly with chia seeds(raw honey added) to Auntie. She's been transferred back to Jubilee & in negative pressure isolation room because her latent TB went active while in hospital. Feeling some bad deja vu because that happened to Dad 2 years ago & he was in hospital for over 3 months.
I'm stressed out/very worried again.
Heading to hospital now.
Ventilator will be put back on if her breathing doesn't improve soon.
@SRDas Thanks. I found out after Dad's experience that many South East Asian diaspora here often have latent TB become active in hospital after severe first time covid infections. It is never reported in the news & public - especially #SouthEastAsian diaspora folks, should know this.
Before the intensity of the conflict increased again, countries in the Southeast Asian region had been actively providing material assistance to #Palestine . Recently, however, Southeast Asian countries have resumed providing aid to Palestine.
Fun fact: I took a DNA test as part of my work as a journalist to cover the National Genographic Project. Interestingly, my maternal DNA belongs to the same haplogroup as Malays & Indians.
Summary: I probably have #SouthEastAsian ancestors on my mum's side. Most probably either Thai or Malay.
I'm just a salad, like every human out there.
Anyway, the results of this research revealed that Peranakans have 5.62% Malay ancestry.
Met an American expat, living in Japan for 13+ years, and has basically had zero interactions with any non-Japanese, non-westerners in #Japan (#SoutheastAsian, #Chinese, #Korean and #SouthAsian) during that entire time.
It's amazing the bubbles people can live in and then pretend to "understand" #Japan.
I've always hated #Malaysian#media/#journalism. All the important things/information always somehow gets missed out or ignored by #news sites (big and small) here, especially when involving #tech.
There were too many occurrences where I see #American/#Western journalism talk about things like what bullshit #Apple did to their new hardware that is unacceptable, and our tech sites here are somehow completely oblivious about this topic and ravishes instead about how pretty and shiny the new product is, pay no mind how Apple cut some vital corners and how it performs/endures as a result, etc. Company X was called to court for anti-consumer behaviours? Who cares.
At the same time, I see them now talking about #Threads and how cool it is, and everyone's jumping on it when I've never ever seen any serious content at all about #Mastodon and the #Fediverse like what The Verge did for the past X number of months since it grew in popularity/awareness. This might apply to other #SouthEastAsian journalism too. Feels like we're all just kids and fanboys with eyes only on the big, shiny things instead of anything or everything that actually matters.
