It used to be Democrats versus Republicans, liberals versus conservatives, left versus right.

That is over.

It is now democracy versus authoritarianism.

The 2024 election is fast approaching. Know the stakes.

@rbreich Tell that to the progressives I keep running into who are more concerned about beating Dems than Republicans. Who say there’s no point in voting when both sides are bad. The ones parroting that kind of BS pushed by Bernie surrogates since 2016. “Voting for Biden is like voting for half a bowl of shit” Tell that to Bernie who never pushes back.

Valuable article for pointing out that trans-panic legislation will also victimize a lot of non-trans kids, but paragraphs like this one go to far by suggesting that there's a really real reason for the crusade, wholly distinct from transphobia. The people bringing these bills are perfectly capable of wanting to control kids and marginalize trans people at the same time. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/anti-trans-moral-panics-endanger-all-young-people/

It's hard to express just how batshit crazy the whole concept is.
It is NOT NORMAL for a major country to say, "If our debt gets this high, we'll stop paying our bills." That's BONKERS. The world economy would not be able to function like that.
There is only one other country with a debt ceiling, and it's so high they never come close to hitting it.
The only point of the US debt ceiling is to provoke crises on a regular basis. The solution is to GET RID OF IT.

I've been here since mid-November 2022, when Twitter went from intolerably bad to ludicrously worse. So I guess I'll be here a while. Ran out of room in the bio, and running out of chars in this post; and I don't want to make a thread -- so here are hashtags I read, and may boost:

Cheers!

Yes, exactly, the same term was used about transpeople at the recent conservative conference.

As in the 1930s' lead up to full-scale genocide, neoNazi politicians are deliberately using terms that maximise the likelihood that we'll eventually come to believe that the lives of the targeted groups are "lives not worth living" and hence accept their murder.

You ask rhetorically, "But Stefanik will somehow do better?"

But that is IMO an open question.
"Better" isn't what Stefanik can, if things go Trumpian, do.
Durham was restricteded by laws and institutional boundaries and regulations to mild over-reach and mild mis-use of DoJ powers.
Stefanik and a Trump 47 administration may not be.

I have a new approach when I am asked to go on TV, which happens once in a while. Usually it's MSNBC, sometimes CNN under the old regime.

My new goal is to introduce a term or concept that has not been heard before on network television.

A few weeks ago it was "verification in reverse" on Maddow.

On May 11 (The 11th Hour) it was "not the odds, but the stakes," which I had pre-tested in Twitter and Mastodon.
