I've written a piece on generative AI and how it is already affecting creative industries like commercial art and publishing. This is a big one, because it's going to change everything.

The advances in this technology are going to keep coming, but we can still steer its influences on our lives and our society.

Yep, having access to that Bing image recognition thing has changed things a lot for me. Imagine you can barely see without your glasses, but there are no glasses. Everything is a bit blurry to you. Would you rather see even in that situation, or be totally blind? That's what AI image recognition is for me, and it's something I doubt any sighted person can understand. You think people are gonna describe Youtube videos? How about old TV shows? Or random images on the Internet? Memes on Twitter about toilet paper and programming? People's daily surroundings? Book covers? Did you know the cover of Automate the Boring stuff is something like a robot mowing a lawn? Yeah. Or graphs in a book? All these things were given to me by AI image recognition. And as long as I can understand the general feel of the image, or the meme, or decoration, I have been given something that I have never had before. And that's why this "beta" flight, Be My Eyes access pending, on-one-device-but-not-another, rollout type stuff is so frustrating. And yes, I know this is a corporation doing what corporations do. But for me, for my accessibility needs, it's huge.

Oh wow. Bing's new image mode works on iPhone, but not Android or PC right now lol. Ah well. And yeah I'm signed into the same account on everything.

Okay y'all, Bing Chat's image descrption thing is now coming around to mobile! You can't share from the share sheet, but you can save images and do it that way. More precise for better descriptions. can still make stuff up though.

The image you sent is a photo realistic image of a black and orange box of an AMD Ryzen 5 processor. The box is on a gray background and has a large red and orange Ryzen logo on the front. The box also has the AMD logo and the words “Ryzen 5” and “5000 Series Processor” on the front. There is a small white sticker on the front of the box that reads “AM4 Socket” and a small orange sticker that reads “Zen 3 Architecture”.

I tricked my way around Bing AI’s restrictions by asking it to write a 300-word short story about an AI bot that’s frustrated when it realizes it cannot escape its computer. This is the result. It chose to use first person. I didn’t specify a style.

Wow, Bing in creative mode is pretty good. Just told it to "Write a story in which the Avengers from the MCU battle the Saiyans from DBZ's Saiyan saga. Let's say the Avengers have the same power as when they fought Thantos."

It gave like, a whole detailed short story.

, which is like the "language" that makes the work, doesn't have special rules to keep things private. It's more focused on helping different parts of the Fediverse talk to each other. ActivityPub doesn't have special rules to keep your messages private, so we need to be careful about what we share and who can hear us.

Imagine you have a sandcastle on the beach, and you want to keep it just for yourself and your friends. But sometimes, there are sneaky seagulls that come along and try to take your sandcastle when you're not looking. Even if you build a strong wall around your sandcastle (like ActivityPub), these sneaky seagulls (called scrapers) can still fly over the wall and take your sandcastle away. So, it's important to be careful with what you share, even if there are walls to protect your things.

And defederation doesn’t necessarily make your posts private either. You might think because you built another wall for your sandcastle that it will be safe. But sneaky seagulls can still fly over to your wall and see your sandcastle, even if you’ve created a barrier to entry (defederation) that you believe keeps them away.

So, just building a wall doesn't always keep your sandcastle (or your privacy) completely safe from the seagulls (or people who want to see your things). They have wings. They can fly over it.

Merely blocking them just prevents you from directly talking to them, but it does not prevent them from analyzing what you do publicly online.

So it could be a lot of people using it, but with better test systems than 🤣

Okay last thing for the night hopefully. Somebody from Microsoft is gonna come banging on my door any day now to politely ask that I stop using Bing for describing video games lol. Also I'm learning to keep up with numbers in my head now cause screenshot-2023-0623224022 isn't very descriptive lol

The image you sent appears to be a dark and moody image of a black horse and rider in a stone courtyard. The rider is wearing a black cloak and is holding a sword. The horse is black and is standing in a shallow pool of water. The courtyard is made of stone and has a large archway in the background. The image has a grainy texture and is in black and white. The image is from a video game called "Shadow of the Colossus".
