I just noticed that emulator is available on the iOS app store and gave it a try. It seems to work alright except for Megadrive/Genesis games. Not sure why it can’t recognize rom files that seem to work with any other . It’s pretty cool that no sideloading or jailbreak is necessary anymore to get access to NES/SNES/GBA/DS on iPhones.

So I have been playing around with the Miyoo mini and have really been loving it. The ps one capability and also the Ds are great on it. I was a bit shocked about the ds as I thought I would hate playing that system on it but the button mapping is spot on with the Onion firmware and you can switch screens no problem. Highly recommend #emulation #retrogaming #videogames #handhelds #miyoominiplus

People defending owners of old gaming IP all day long. Look, I get it. And is often iffy. But imagine if other mediums were like gaming. 99% of music and film inaccessible unless you owned original hardware and original media, slowly degrading and liable to die at any moment. It’s insane that gaming is in the place it is. I’d long hoped for an ‘iTunes for MAME’ years ago, but no. The closest we’ve got to something remotely sensible is ‘Netflix for ’ Antstream Arcade.

Apple charging 50c for downloads in Europe of Delta to be available on AltStore (which offsets the cost with the 1.50 Eur/year). It is unfortunate Apple forced them to do this, but great to see AltStore's fee covers the Delta - Game Emulator!

I've just had a lot of fun rewatching this conference given by @textfiles in Lausanne (DH Days) two years ago about his work at the Internet Archive, emulation, and software preservation. It's so rich, full of great examples! Next year I'll include it in my syllabus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5_dLevOhrA @gamelabunilepfl

🧵THREAD - iGBA 🧵
Yeah so I think a lot of iOS users have seen that Apple updated their AppStore TOS and people can upload emulators now, and it already happened. This new thing called iGBA launched on the AppStore and oh boy it is full of red flags!
I became aware of this emulator when the creator posted about it on the GBDev server. Later, I noticed a message of someone (I won't upload screenshots, I will respect people's privacy) asking where to get ROMs. I redirected him to Homebrew Hub

@vl2m@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

We talked on the GBDev server about this emulator and the gbatemp thread and @endrift just straight up confirmed the suspicions mentioned in the gbatemp thread. It's literally GBA4iOS. The developer likely just modified it to add ads, trackers and the GBDev link.
So Apple users, don't download this. Wait for better emulators to come out.

Guess I didn't post about this, but I've publicized the list of my findings so far specifically Windows-based arcade games that do & don't run in LinuxWine. https://gist.github.com/SeongGino/92c5222d0baaf235332e09d2522e76db

While the RG556 is a great / platform, it has a big flaw when it comes to TypeC support; it will NOT do HDMI and charging at the same time. It is using an external display OR charging... not both! Hopefully a software update, but I doubt... This means that the Baseus Steam Deck docks I have are all not working with this device (but works with Samsung devices and a Deck of course).

Forgot to plug my own work again! I wrote about using Raspberry Pi 5 to emulate consoles that previous models couldn't quite stretch to, as well as our old favourites.

That includes Wii emulation using Dophin and the Open Shop Channel, GBA emulation with mGBA, Dreamcast with Flycast and PS1 with Mednaffe, plus the latest version of RecalBox.

My first mac was an iMac 20" bought in September 2008. It's 16 years old and hasn't been powered on in 8 years but still looks new.

So, why not give it new life as a dedicated emulator machine? 🕹

It has a 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo (64-bit) and 4 GB of RAM, which should be good.

The 320 GB HDD was OK, but better transplant the 250 GB SSD upgrade out of my first macbook.

When I first booted Ubuntu LTS off an USB stick, I was suprised how smooth it ran. Plus, it supported all the hardware! 😮

1/3 🧵

The iMac showing its innards, but stil with the LCD panel attached (the disk drive is behind it, so it had to be dissassembled next). It has never been opened, so it was pretty dusty, and it smelled of old rags.

Found another game where I can put my custom pedal controller to use: Namco's "Assault" (1988).

With a gamepad, Assault is a two-stick affair, each controlling one of the tank's tracks (to go right you push the left stick; to go left you push the right stick). It's very frustrating. I keep getting confused from having to take my right thumb off the stick to fire. 😕

Using the pedal to fire is much nicer. Driving is still awkward, but I blame my lack of skill.

Another screenshot of Namco's "Assault" (1988). When you drive over a lift zone, the tank jumps high into the air (actually, the background moves away from you) and you can see more of the playfield and shoot enemies from afar.
