Tatsächlich gibt es Nationalparks, die Überschuss erwirtschaften, aber das darf nie das Argument für sinnvolle Dinge sein.
Das Ziel eines Nationalparks ist Naturschutz: freie Entwicklung einer großen Fläche ohne Eingriff durch Menschen. Alles andere ist untergeordnet: Erholung, Bildung, Forschung. Arbeitsplätze, Tourismus und Infrastrukturausbau sind Nebeneffekte.
Bei einem Spielplatz, Park, Brunnen oder Denkmal wird auch nicht nach der Wirtschaftlichkeit gefragt. Es gibt ein Ziel und dann wird ein sinnvoller Weg gesucht, dieses Ziel zu erreichen.

The African Baobab is a multipurpose, drought resistant, wild fruit tree, endemic to arid and semi-arid lands of Sub-Saharan Africa. Baobab populations have been showing a lack of regeneration, and therefore causes concern for the species survival.
The tree’s pulp has more protein than breast milk, more vitamin C than oranges, more magnesium than spinach, more iron than red meat and more potassium than a banana. It has become a popular additive in reinforced foods.
Researchers believe baobab has the potential to become a major regional export commodity, with Southern and Eastern African regions capable of supplying 700,000 metric tonnes of baobab fruit a year.
Ranger Sarah has arrived at Agate Fossil Beds National Monument in Nebraska. Known for a large number of well-preserved Miocene fossils. Fossils from the Harrison Formation and Anderson Ranch Formation, which date to the Arikareean in the North American land mammal classification, about 20 to 16.3 million years ago, are among some of the best specimens of Miocene mammals.
Ranger Sarah has spotted a short-horned lizard, sometimes called the horny toad. Can you see it, it blends in perfectly with the rocks behind it. This little guy is commonly sited around the rocks near the Fossil Hills trail. Short-horned lizards are between two and six inches long with pointy spines on their head and body.
Ranger Sarah studies the trail sign for the 1 mile loop Daemonelix Trail. A Daemonelix are large spirals. At first thought to be the fossil remains of gigantic plants, they were later identified as the fossilized casts of spiral burrows made by ancient beavers called Palaeocastor.

Ranger Sarah learns about the ancient sand dunes. This 22 million year old sand dune is the oldest land form exposed in the Niobrara Valley. The sandstone is composed of fine volcanic material that were transported by the wind from volcanic areas in Utah and Nevada.

Am Freitag (15.03.) findet die erste Sitzung des HSK-Kreistags in diesem Jahr statt. Der Kreistag wird sich erneut mit dem Thema Nationalpark befassen.
Landrat, CDU und FDP hatten mit ihrer knappen Mehrheit bei der letzten Sitzung des Kreistags am 08.12.2023 abgelehnt, dass sich der #Hochsauerlandkreis darum bewirbt, auf Teilen des Arnsberger Wald einen #Nationalpark einzurichten.
