From NCJW:
Next week, the Senate will vote on The Right to Contraception Act which would uphold the right to access contraception, first recognized by the Supreme Court in Griswold v. Connecticut in 1965. The Right to Contraception Act would safeguard a person's right to seek and obtain birth control, even if the Supreme Court were to ever overturn the existing constitutional protection.

We need your voice in this fight. Take action today and tell Congress to support the Right to Contraception Act. Our Jewish movement has our own playbook: everyone deserves access to basic health care, including abortion care and contraceptives. Let’s get out there and play.

Public Christian schools? Leonard Leo’s allies advance a new cause - POLITICO

New York Times & Leonard Leo's justices' plot to crush Roe v. Wade.

"We learn that every major aspect of Dobbs was preordained once Barrett replaced Ginsburg: Five Republican-appointed justices wanted to abolish the constitutional right to abortion; they disagreed exclusively over how it would look and how best to deceive and mollify the American public; they fretted about how fast they could rewrite the law without revealing the fundamentally partisan nature of their ruling.
...
It turns out that abortion rights vanished in America because five conservatives barely tried to hide the fact that they could do that, simply because they could do that. And it turns out that they’re increasingly bad at covering their tracks."

Merging religion and politics risks undermining democracy.

History shows the conflicts it can cause.

Uphold secularism in politics and respect all beliefs for a stronger, united society.

Today I glanced a piece on the TV news about a church pastor in Temecula who also runs a political action committee (PAC), apparently from his church, to get conservative candidates onto local school boards.

As I recall the tax regulations, this clearly crossed the line into politics and therefore that church should lose its tax-exempt status.

Sadly, I couldn't find articles online more recent than a year ago, and articles from 3 newspapers used the same mechanism to hide their articles behind paywalls.

Democracy dies in darkness.

"Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen (Muslims); and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan (Mohammedan) nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

Wow. A report by Roger Sollenberger from The Daily Beast reveals that the new Speaker, Mike Johnson, claims not to have ANY bank account or assets in his family worth $5,000. His financial disclosures for years have shown nothing. Is he really living paycheck to paycheck, or is he hiding his true net worth? I mean, the guy is in the top 12 percent of income earners. Something doesn’t smell right here.

Something is fishy with SOH Johnson's finances. One would think this would be another red flag, but Republicans don't tend to do much vetting:

Over the last seven years, he has never reported a checking or savings account in his name, nor in the name of his wife, or any of his children. He doesn't appear to have money stashed in any investments, with his latest filing -covering 2022 -showing no assets whatever.

🧵 Rep. Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, just became the Speaker of the House. He’ll be one of the most inexperienced speakers in American history. But he’ll also be the most far-right one in a long time as well.

He's an extremist in a tweed suit. Here's how...

Time to regulate & contain the partisan influence of Leonard Leo & the Federalist Society, for the sake of Americans' democracy, human & civil rights.
