🔒 enthusiasts, take note!
@privacytests has released a new category in its evaluations: 'DNS Privacy Tests'. Most browsers fail to encrypt DNS queries, leaving user data exposed in many countries - exceptions: @mullvadnet & @torproject

Again, both are Firefox-based.

I’m finally getting over Caddyserver’s betrayal and learning to love it again (as everyone else already has lol). Latest thing I did, hosting all my domains on without needing to configure each website independently: https://www.jonaharagon.com/notes/a-caddyfile-for-hosting-your-domain-and-all-subdomains-on-tor/

@cwtch is by far my most favorite #secure #messenger. it's #serverless, and end to end encryption (#e2ee) is built in with #tor onion services. no setting up any infrastructure required, it's built on the back of the distributed @torproject operator network. no phone number is necessary, and you can have isolated IDs (profiles) for everyone you talk to

Do we see here the first ever based node running? I just provided a TOR node for the network on one of my boards. This one currently runs on (will be switched to soon).

If someone wants to run a or on his based board (probably mostly users) on can obtain a precompiled version of Tor 0.4.8.10 right here: https://cdn.gyptazy.ch/files/riscv64/debian/tor/

Elections will be held in many countries this year, and some governments are expected to censor information.
If you are in a country where elections will be held, you should download in advance the Tor-powered application developed by the @torproject .
Those in countries without elections can also fight censorship by installing the Snowflake extension on your browser.

Defend Internet Freedom with in 2024 elections season

As over 65 elections will happen across the world in 2024, this year stands as the biggest election cycle of this century so far. Internet censorship and surveillance are a threat to the integrity of free and fair elections.

I missed this from last week, but WOW: Onion Browser (https://onionbrowser.com/) is one of the browser choices in the new "choose your default browser" screen that will be shown to iOS users in the EU: https://www.macrumors.com/2024/01/26/apple-explains-ios-17-4-default-browsers-eu/ (It's popular enough in each country!)

Huge thanks and props to everyone who's collaborated on / supported the project over the years! @n8fr8 @tla @guardianproject @torproject

Apparently Onion Browser for iOS (one of our free and open-source projects: https://onionbrowser.com/) is popular enough to be on the new "browser ballot" screen that EU iOS users will be presented with to choose their default browser: https://www.macrumors.com/2024/01/26/apple-explains-ios-17-4-default-browsers-eu/ cc @torproject @mtigas @tla

Woke up with a user report that wasn't blocked anymore in Russia and they could connect without bridges.

Verified with @ooni's Circumvention Charts, and yep, it checks out. 🤨

But this smells... feels like heavier censorship's on the horizon.

Update: Roskomnadzor blocked again.

Users can bypass censorship using Tor bridges.
