Burr Trail Rd is a scenic byway that runs from the town of Boulder Utah through Capital Reef National Park's Waterpocket Fold and ultimately Bullfrog Marina and a small landing strip at Lake Powell.

This area formed during the Laramide orogeny that started 70 to 80 million years ago, and ended 35 to 55 million years ago

NEW: The trade group representing the adult entertainment industry, is suing Utah over its new age-verification law, arguing it requires government ID but the state can't verify it in violation of free speech and privacy rights: https://www.fox13now.com/news/local-news/porn-companies-sue-utah-over-website-age-verification-law

I love camping and I love getting up while everyone else is still sleeping. Camera in hand I head out in search of the first light. This is the Great White Throne in Zion National Park just as the sun was beginning to rise. The throne stands in contrast being made mostly of white Navajo limestone.

People are laughing at the image that compares blocking after passing their age verification law & the huge spike in people searching for a solution from that state.

I'm more concerned about the fact that Republican lawmakers are handing the federal government more pretense to dismantle . Make no mistake the feds have been trying to kill encryption for private citizens for decades and love these laws.

Republicans are the party of state surveillance, not

Our last day in ! It was almost 80º and sunny. Just beautiful. We decided on a loop trail in the mountains. Well... There were patches of snow as we hiked and we were amused. Our puppy loved it and rolled in it. Then about 75% in, we were knee deep in snow. Did I mention I was wearing shorts? and sandals? My toes were so cold. It was too late to turn around, but with lots of breaks and rubbing life back into my feet, we made it. Utah will not soon be forgotten...

Since I started photographing birds in Texas, we have been keeping track of all the birds we identify in the eBird app. The app is useful in telling us which birds are common to the area and if they have been seen in the last week. According to the app, 98 different species have been identified at the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge in the past week. Today, we identified 29-- ten of which we have never seen before Utah! This yellow-headed blackbird is one of the new ones to us.

Let me show you one of Utah's natural wonders: Arches National Park. It's one of those iconic National Parks in the American West where you feel overwhelmed by the creative power of nature.

Visit to Devil's Garden on my Grand Staircase Escalante trip in Utah. Variety of sandstone hoodoos, arches and bizarre spires from the Entrada formation deposited 175 million years ago, Second is Metate Arch and fourth is Mano Arch, background of third is the Straight Cliffs running for 50 miles south to the Colorado River. Looking up toward Metate Arch framed in a blue sky.
Four sandstone hoodoos standing high with cliffs in the background and desert shrub in the foreground.
Light colored sandstone arch with massive top and sides, looking chunky and clunky.

Back from my trip to Grand Staircase Escalante NM in Utah. At Escalante Petrified Forest SP I saw the largest, most plentiful and intensely colored petrified tree stumps. They date back 220 million years. Very special treat to see. They were conifers and some have been identified as belonging to the Auricaria family.

"Brave Enough" is a concept album, about processing grief and demons. Last month, I put forward "The arena" as a remarkable track 3. This month, the follow-up.

"The phoenix" is about what happens when you confront your demons.

It appears that a lot of people don't understand the implications of laws like Utah's -- which will extend beyond the state, and be copied by many other states -- involving limits on children accessing social media. In order to prevent children from creating social media accounts by themselves, it is required that ALL adult users of social media be identified via government IDs. This is literally the beginning of Chinese-style control and tracking of ALL Internet usage here in the U.S. Nothing less.
