The podcast Left Reckoning did an interview with a social science researcher (I think) where they discussed this exact topic. Basically because Israel controls the population and Hamas doesn’t have the capabilities to defend the population (anti air etc), and the balance of deaths exceeds a threshold it’s correct to use the term massacre.

Western media prefer “war” as they don’t have to deal with the lopsided nature of the conflict 🙁

But it’s much worse than that. The people being killed are being kept in an open air prison, the most densely populated area on earth, have their food and water controlled by their occupier, are utterly dehumanised, and are now being bombed indiscriminately and starved by the settler colonial apartheid state backed by the west.

If it’s not genocide I have no other word for it, and hasbarists will split hairs about definitions..

    There is interesting reporting on the scope of sexualised violence during the October 7th incident. One might be led to believe that the state that manufactured lies about UNRWA-start and caused the cessation of aid, sexually abuse their captives (and also fired upon their own citizens on several occasions), violates international law on a daily basis, might not be an entirely reliable source of information….
