If I were Adam, I would have given Eve a cooler name like McRib.

Mutedog,
@Mutedog@mastodon.social avatar

@Alice IIRC it was Adam who named Eve, not God.

Mutedog,
@Mutedog@mastodon.social avatar

@Alice what does that have to do with anything? It was Gollum who threw the ring into mount Doom, not Frodo.

It seems like the bumblebees are more interested in the raspberry flowers than the honey bees are.

Okay, this might sound weird, but this is what I'm thinking of today. I'm assuming most of you know the idiom, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." I know it's about looking at the horse's teeth to check it's age and health, but in my heart I have an alternate history where it's about The Trojan Horse, which doesn't really even make much sense, but it's still living there rent free.

So, does anyone else do this, make up alternate histories for words or phrases? If you do, I'd love examples!

Mutedog,
@Mutedog@mastodon.social avatar

@RickiTarr Sometimes I make up stories about etymology or phrase origins. The other day I had a thought that the word Shyster originated from the German word for shit (Schiesse). Turns out it might actually be correct.

Braupakt: Two giants at it together, Weihenstephan and St Bernardus.

The Weizen yeast is obvious, with clove and banana dominating the aroma. Also some biscuit, citrus and hay. It's golden and crystal clear, with a stable white head. Effervescent, rather sweet, with a good dose of hop bitters.

Very well balanced. A good mix of the styles, with both very recognizable. Nice experiment!

Good morning and Happy Wednesday!

Today is my official "Mastoversary." Now this account I made in November 2022, but my first Mastodon account as made today two years ago on Dot Social.

In these two years, my social media experience has been better. I've had more direct conversations with folks about so many things. Learned about more new music. Kept connected about politics, without as much of the...wild anger, bitterness, and screaming angrily into the void.

I am glad to be here with y'all.

Here's to the Fediverse.

So, my bees swarmed today. That was an adventure. My friend and I were able to retrieve the swarm from pretty high up in a tree on my property. Bees will swarm when a hive decides to split, usually because the space they're living in is getting too cramped for the number of bees that the local resources can support. In this case it's because we hadn't added additional boxes to expand the space for the hive soon enough, oops.

To tide us over between the brewery earlier and the pub to come we've dipped our hands into the fridge to select something from the craft ales Mystery Box we recently bought. It was a Wheat Beer and, seriously, who likes this stuff? Wheat beer is revolting. It's the Chardonnay of the wine world. It's the Campari of whatever world it is that Campari lives in. Its only purpose appears to be to make other drinks seem nicer.

Any visit to the doctor (especially as a person with autism)

  1. Try to find office that has changed locations since the last time you were there.
  2. Sit in waiting room next to coughing people who aren't wearing masks.
  3. Get called back and wait in a tiny room on an uncomfortable table covered in annoying crinkly paper.
  4. Have an unmasked doctor enter the tiny room and close the door.
  5. Listen to a blood pressure cuff's Velcro clasp and unclasp an uncomfortable amount of times.

Doctor: Your heart rate and blood pressure are high.

Oh, really?!? I wonder why that is.

Mutedog,
@Mutedog@mastodon.social avatar

@Alice White coat syndrome is a real thing. If you're concerned about your blood pressure levels you can get a machine to check it at home.

Why do you think youtube has such a more equitable split with creators than any other platform? Like, if you have 10M followers on IG, you can make revenue by directing people to buy stuff, but for ads next to your art, you get nothing. Same with Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Mutedog,
@Mutedog@mastodon.social avatar

@ZachWeinersmith probably because the ads are basically inserted into the middle of your content? A bit harder to say that they don't know exactly what ads appeared where when it's literally inserted into your work?

Well, I just finished bottling ~11 liters of Altbier. This is the fourth batch of beer or mead I've have brewed without using any type of sanitizer at any stage of the process. I've just thoroughly cleaned everything with hot, soapy water. I might be playing Russian Roulette with my beer and mead but, so far, I haven't had any surprises. Though, the equipment I am currently using is quite simple (not many cracks and crevices for critters to hide in).

What could go wrong? 🤷‍♂️

Good morning and happy Wednesday!

Tonight, my wife and I are going to see Fall Out Boy in concert! First concert we have ever been to as a couple...and we've been married almost 17 years. We just haven't really been to concerts in a long while.

I am thankful for tonight, for family willing to watch our kids, and for the firsts in our relationship I didn't realize we still had.

Hope you have a good one!

In a bit of a change of tone, here's me lamenting about my recent frustrations about liquid yeast and what consequences I'm drawing from it. https://dafteejit.com/2024/03/liquid-yeast-why-do-i-even-bother/

@akrennmair my understanding is that there's basically 2 historical lager strains (saaz and frohberg) and everything being sold is just a variation of one or the other. Maybe there are some minute differences but...

You'd think after being forced to suffer through Daylight Saving Time for over 40 years nowI'd have saved enough Daylight to get like a bonus day or something.

But no...

@mdmrn we get a bonus day every four years, pretty sure that's where all that saved daylight goes.

🎵 I hurt myself today, to see if I still feel. I focus on the pain, the only thing that's real. 🎵

In 1995, Nine Inch Nails released this haunting tune with a music video that was a variety of images overlaid with Trent Renzor in concert. Kabuki recreates the concert venues here today.

In 2003, Johnny Cash released his cover of NIN's song. It was a haunting rendition from a man nearing the end. Walt is portraying the sorrow of Johnny Cash here.

Both versions are fantastic.

Enjoy both renditions here.
