PlayAllTheThings,

@Neverfadingwood These are hilarious. What do you think is used to generate them?

I didn't realize that was mainstream enough for the Ultimate Fan Guide to be sold at the check out line in the grocery store in Tampa, FL.

Next to the Taylor Swift one.

Hey folks. is trending.

We've played "Not What I Call Bonk Wave - Volume 001" on WMNF community radio.

Hey VGM people. 🎮 🎶

Anyone have recommendations for avant-garde experimental video game OSTs. Can be electro, rock, jazz, noise, or whatever influenced?

I am doing research for a "Strange and Beautiful" radio show.

Here is a pretty good example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7HObmel0Ig

One of my friends pointed out that Bible stories sound exactly like Florida Man Headlines!

Example:

Florida Man Starts Building Ark, Says God Is Going Flood The Whole Earth

PLEASE, add your own Florida Man Bible Headlines for everyone's amusement!

Been looking at various apps to help me mitigate my ADHD-incurred forgetfulness.

I stg it's getting worse with age 😂

Picked up Any.do for a first run at it. Seems nice enough, has task lists, Kanban Boards (which I really like for managing tasks for degree assignments), and works on Android, Windows and the web.

That's not to say there's something even better out there...

Anyone using something that helps them in dealing with inattentive symptoms?

Be nice to see alternatives 😄

PlayAllTheThings,

@Sar Good luck! I am no help. I am awesome at setting up these kinds of apps / systems. I am crap at using them.

If you can see this post and you are under 30 years of age I want you to suggest a band for me to check out. Something of "your generation" tho; I know the old-man shit very well, thanks.

Electronic based acts preferred cause that's what I like but I am capable of appreciating anything, so if it's That Fucking Good, bring it!

PlayAllTheThings,

@etherdiver so I am 50 but my son is 14 and recently recommended this to me. He is into what he calls "liminal music"

This week @miona's has a theme of where we look into title screen / start menu music.

I may be basic, but I love the shop channel music. It's simple, it's classic, and it's chill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xc7tNbjnHM

got a little stuck in my head today, so my wife and i headed out to a lake an hour away and walked on the beach at sunset.

the sounds of the shorebirds and sights of tiny minnows schooling warmed our hearts

A sequence of three shots: - tiny waves lapping near the camera - a school of minnows swimming easterly in the evening sun - a coastline of poplar and birch trees, all in yellows, shedding their autumn leaves

PlayAllTheThings,

@vga256 lovely. <3

I am playing Return to Monkey Island for the first time and I keep mentally coming back to the totally unexpected and touching scene where you obtain the mop handle.

Not only was this excellent dark humor, but also deep commentary on casual disregard for our use of resources and (intentional or not) obliviousness to animal suffering.

I am going to use this as my go to example of being for a while.

ever own a piece of electronics equipment that, when you look at it, you say: you’re going to try burning my house down when my back is turned aren’t you?

for me, it’s this ricketyass EPROM wiper made by “L S Engineering” in the 70s or 80s. it’s just a plastic box with a transformer inside wired to a tiny fluorescent ballast. wires run haphazardly inside and terminate in a wall plug. i got it free in a box of junk several years ago

let’s see if this thing works.

PlayAllTheThings,

@vga256 Polycarbonate does block UV.

PlayAllTheThings,

@vga256 I know that because some optical lenses are made with polycarbonate and they do not need to UV coated to protect eyes from sunlight.

I recently published a piece on PragerU, an unaccredited school registered as a nonprofit, which is behind controversial right-wing propaganda videos recently approved for Florida schools.

I looked at hundreds of 990s to identify the largest recent funders of PragerU and how they are spending their money (Facebook, Google)

The Oklahoma Dept of Education just announced a partnership with PragerU - they are spreading.

A dazzling array of musicians, across generations and genres, have contributed to a new album that celebrates the deep influence and legacy of Doc Watson, the North Carolina guitarist, singer and songwriter who would have turned 100 on March 3 of this year.

@broximar That is what I hated about my time on TiKTok. Nothing is ever shared purely. It is all overlayed with calculated self promotion. Exhausting.

I shared this privately before, but I just got the okay to share it in public. The Bluegrass Archive is online with a website and everything. This is a MASSIVE trove of legal live recordings from earliest days right up to now, which you can download and listen to for free. It is one of the greatest achievements of the fan-driven archiving community I've ever seen. I contributed a small number of filesets out of the thousands here.

@mrcompletely @rowjimmy @dave_heumann @shlenny Indeed, my dad was from Louisville, KY and has been lifelong friends with Sam Bush et al. I haven't heard of this book previously, but I sure am going to read it now!

I think yesterday's WMNF community radio show was probably the best one DJ Spaceship and I have done. If you have interest in listening to a wide variety of music, it is here for one week:

    Hey people and .

I've been thinking about this for a while... My son is 13 and plays piano and cell since he was about 6. He is good and plays for the local youth orchestra and every year goes to the state competition and usually wins something.

    But I noticed something.

He never, and I mean NEVER. Plays for fun. He will practice because he is told to, and that used to be struggle. It is just like homework for him. He will do it, but not a bit extra.

He is a good kid, I am thinking maybe he should stop cello and piano and put that time into something he actually does want to do (Youtube and videogames do not count).

    Thoughts?

[Boost are appreciated for reach. ]

    PlayAllTheThings,

@vga256 We've given him the option of quitting before and he hasn't taken us up on it. I am not included to make him quit. I think we need to just talk about it more.
