As I'm sure you recall (🙄), I "managed" to delete a large # of edits from this yr. The upside is that I get another crack at a lot of photos, especially some of my favorites. I took this photo back in February & it's most definitely a favorite. I've not been this close to a Northern flicker before & definitely not seen one drinking from the Iowa River.

Finally managed to catch some photos of a wren, a house wren in this case. They are very common in these parts but only during breeding season when this small bird is hard (for me) to find amongst the foliage. I've had other opportunities but usually they're gone before I get them in focus.

Not unlike a lot of photographers I'll often return to the same subject/scene because I enjoyed what I found the first time I came across it. This is one of my favorite yards, especially in the fall. It's not the kind of yard I'd choose because I'm not a big fan of lawns but the topiary bushes, the fabulous trees growing from within a leaf-covered, sculpted hedge, the streetlight? What's not to love?

Bald eagle atop its aerie. The locals that inhabited this large nest this year produced at least one chick that fledged. The nest appears quite old & very sturdy & I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same pair as the past 3 yrs.

I took this photo using a 750mm equivalent lens at a significant distance from the nest.

‼️Please don't approach or disturb active nests🚫.

This yr's bald eagle chick looks like it'll be fledging soon. That is the adult in the nest next to it.

I'm photographing the nest from a long distance using the equivalent of 750mm lens.

Some Rudbeckia in my friend's garden. This variety appears to be a self-seeding annual since its location, flower color variations, and numbers vary from year to year. I'm a huge fan. I've tried to establish it in my garden using seeds from his plants but no luck so far. Have to try again next year 🤞.

Not the best pic but my first of the Eastern towhee👍

Been hearing them the past two years but not had a chance to photograph. Very cute birds and I ran across it while it was singing its heart out so I got to watch its behavior for a while. Awesome first encounter 🙂

Photograph of clusters of purple forest phlox flowers at the top of a long stems with out of focus green foliage in the background. Forest phlox has five, long, teardrop-shaped, pale purple feathers that radiate from a narrow central cone. Two orange anthers are visible in the center of the cone while the other reproductive organs are interior to the cone.
