Hey peeps, can someone tell me why I get prompted for a username and password on when trying to clone a repository on my brand new headless installation?

I'm just trying to install on my server. I do NOT get any such prompts when I tried it just now on my laptop running Manjaro, or earlier on Ubuntu Server.

Is this a Debian thing?

EDIT: Thanks for all the help, everyone. It was a dang typo.

This is why people like GUIs and clicking on shit, BTW.

As a macOS user, my #Linux journey began with trying to make my DE look & work like #macOS, but with the added features a Linux DE provides - first #GNOME, then #KDE, finally settling on #Cinnamon as my favorite.

Then @thelinuxEXP released his video about bad UX design where he trashed the concept of a menu to launch apps & demonstrated how GNOME’s approach is superior… 🤔

My (mostly) stock GNOME immersion begins now.

macOS Sonoma is a 13.37GB download.

That’s 15.5 times larger than Arch Linux…

Over 6.5 times larger than EndeavourOS
Over 5 times larger than Garuda, Linux Mint, Feren OS, Pop!_OS, Fedora, & Zorin
Over 3 times larger than Ubuntu, Manjaro & Debian

Over 2.4 times larger than…WINDOWS 11‽

Are you feeling okay, Tim Apple?

I found a really interesting piece by Jason Yuan where he offers one possible solution: a concept he calls that focuses on INTENTIONS instead of applications.

Question for the and community:

I started making a few "Powered by" Linux stickers in for the laptops that I own, and it turned into an all-day project with 50 distros represented.

I'd like to share the file for others to use, but I'm concerned about copyright issues, as some of the logos are trademarked, & I'm sure that some of them violate usage guidelines.

EDIT: I posted them: https://github.com/RockyC36/StickerPack

I am of the opinion that if we keep waiting for the “perfect” tablet, it will never exist. The specs of the are head and shoulders above any other Linux-dedicated thus far.

I plan on purchasing one once I see a product review, and if it’s as good as I hope it will be, I hope that Linux users will support it with their WALLETS so we get more and better devices like this.

The migration from to is complete!

I was skeptical at first, but Zigbee2MQTT is the superior platform. It was actually easier to set up than I expected it to be, so kudos to the programmers.

It was a lot of work just so I can fully support the new microwave presence sensor I just got, but boy is that thing slick! Definitely grabbing a few more of those!

Question for my peeps:

My A475 has the touchpad/touchpoint device on the PS/2 bus, and whenever the battery dies, my touchpad is no longer recognized in Linux - ANY Linux.

How do I wake up the PS/2 bus in Linux and get my touchpad back?

The only remedy thus far has been to boot to a Windows install ISO.

As much as I despise the idea of enabled tools harvesting user data, the ability to just give me a fucking answer instead of directing me to a random website…

That kind of magic is going to be REALLY hard to resist, y’all.

And the scary part is that we will never know what data gets injected into those results.

has forced me to keep ALL of my data on my or cloud storage, and I’ve realized that this is the exact same idea as for email, something that I’ve been a fan of since the bad old days of POP.

Now it seems I’m on a quest to carry as close to ZERO data with me as possible when I leave the house so if something is lost or stolen, I’ve only lost an easily replaceable device.

Looking at you, .

@e33io First impressions after installing

HOT:

  1. HOLY WOW, this boots fast!
  2. Tiling is neat once you get used to it. I could learn to do this.

NOT:

  1. Right-click all you want. Nothing will happen.
  2. Tooltips are clearly NOT a priority, so we're just guessing as to what those colorful squares do, eh?
  3. Calls to open Firefox from other apps is ignored...?
  4. Laptop brightness keys don't function. Sunglasses needed.
  5. Config files for everything

I’ve been using a pair of minis on wall mounts for bedroom TV duty, and while their sound is adequate, their orientation definitely makes a difference in the . Since the primary driver fires downward, I’ve been experimenting with rotating the minis so their bottom is facing the wall, and I THINK that I hear better midrange and treble.

Any of you HomePod mini owners out there been experimenting with orientation and placement on or near a wall?

My signpost. The distances and directions to actual locations were measured on a map. (Yes, I’m a nerd.) So far, I have:

Sleepy Hollow (New York)
Halloween Town (The Nightmare Before Christmas, produced in California)
Robot Hell (. Bonus points if you know where it is or can decode the alien writing)
Azkaban Prison & Godric’s Hollow (, somewhere in the North Sea & Great Britain, respectively)

What should I add next?

The individual signs for my Halloween sign post. They are made of 1x4 pine, distressed by beating, and then painted.

Hardcase just made the distro hop from Manjaro GNOME to Ultramarine KDE, and it just keeps getting better. Wake from sleep is MUCH faster now, and everything feels more smooth and polished.

For people who don’t want to bother with manually adding repos and changing default settings to make Fedora more user-friendly, Ultramarine Linux is a great drop-in replacement. Definitely give it a try.
