shortages ‘causing stress and anxiety’ for UK diabetes patients - https://www.theguardian.com/society/2024/apr/28/insulin-shortages-stress-anxiety-uk-diabetes-patients-type-1 outrageous, and largely to blame (other EU countries don't have this problem)

@glynmoody

It's hard to believe we live in a world where Diabetics have to ration their insulin supply or risk death, despite the drug being developed for more than 40 years.

Thanks

Thanks for failing to protect medicines supplies

Thanks to for not caring unless they can make money

    Same happening across the pond here in the UK.

    Conservatives going full on anti mitigation and giving taxpayers money away to the fossil fuel co.s

    Liberals are farting about in the middle ground, while still enabling & empty pledges

    Unfortunately in our 2 party system is tough to get in power

    When we find people like this, we should treasure them, and put them in charge:

    "They were smart and they were funny and they were tougher than I can imagine and they were possessed of an existential commitment to the idea that life is complicated and so we shouldn’t be quick to judge. They were tolerant, in the true sense, even while they were tireless advocates for actual justice."

    Here in the UK, our governments ( and ) have turned our national asset, the and system, from a high quality, caring, safe service into fodder for global private equity companies, who are suckling every drop of value from us, while being supported by the British Taxpayer.

    Much of Cory Doctorow's analysis of US private equity feeding off healthcare applies to the UK too.

    Be scared.

    There are (at least) three groups of voters whom is alienating with his continued tacit support for the :

    1. A majority of Muslims;
    2. A substantial number of Jews;
    3. A much broader community of people with a strong commitment to human rights and an ethical foreign policy.

    These groups are not individually electorally significant, but taken together they may be.

    I'd be interested in your thoughts on how many waivering voters might go instead:

    It will bring an interesting dynamic as well as some additional independent candidates.

    I really get that, tactical voting is an awful place to be, when you don't believe either party will do any good.

    For myself, I can no longer support the hate that voting Labour is associated with, and that they're supported now by the rich, rather the people.

    They won't help me, and I want my vote to represent what I want for the world, even as we're living in the pseudo-democracy of FPTP

    Let's be more like :

    The cost to park in Paris's central districts for drivers that do not have a special licence from local authorities is set to soar to €18 (£15) per hour for the first 2 hours, compared to €6 (£5) per hour for smaller cars.

    After that, will become increasingly punitive.

    A 6 hour stay with an will cost €225 (£192), compared to €75 (£64) for smaller vehicles.

    I'm catching a train today, with a service not affected by strikes.

    The announcements at the station about cancelled trains don't mention instead saying "too many trains are needing repairs"

    What is this, a authoritarian state with Orwellian announcements?

    CW: LongThread
    Reading the Correctiv article, that has lead to protests.

    I'm eerily looking at how the UK & parties are working in the UK:

    "There is talk of influencers, propaganda, campaigns, & university projects. The tools to establish a right-wing anti-establishment climate. And ultimately the tools to weaken Germany’s democracy by questioning elections, discrediting the constitutional court, suppressing opposing views & censoring public service broadcasting."
    1/

    StingrayBadger,
    @StingrayBadger@zirk.us avatar

    We already have this in action:

    • Braverman's attacks on "leftie lawyers" who defend asylum seekers

    • Johnson's fight with the Civil Service as the "woke blob"

    • Requiring ID to vote in elections, which is likely to lead to lower turnout, especially in poorer, & younger communities under the guise of preventing "election fraud", despite very low rates of such in the UK.

    • Making peaceful protests illegal

    • Putting right wing figures in charge of the BBC & repeatedly cutting the funding.
      2/

    StingrayBadger,
    @StingrayBadger@zirk.us avatar

    Their discussions of how to make donations by "legal" or via "third parties or agencies" rings another resonant note.

    The UK election & political funding is already opaque, and regularly abused, while the elections monitor has further had their role restricted since the Tories have been in power.

    Funding of Tufton Street & European Research Group affiliations are v. opaque, yet these groups have major influence over MPs and regularly host political events, which are private & undocumented

    "the AfD plans to target young people on platforms such as TikTok and YouTube with content that will normalise the party’s ideas."

    • there is almost no regulation of social media, in the UK, either to prevent the spread of misinformation, or to establish how election campaigns are being funded.

    • We still don't know the full extent of social media on the Brexit referendum

    If it wasn't for I would have no idea that hundreds of thousands of Germans have been protesting against in towns and cities throughout

    I've only found one report of the protests in the BBC where they fail to mention the scale of the protests. Nothing in the Guardian or Independent.

    Is British mainstream media worried about showing how good the Germans are at saying "no" - to the extremists, worried the Brits will be out on the streets too?

    Thanks everyone for your support and comments.

    I'm glad to see that today, there is now an article on the front page UK news website for the Guardian. However, although the BBC is carrying a story on the protests, it's dropped off their UK front page.
    The independent and Mirror front websites also don't carry any stories.

    I do wish more Brits could learn about the protests, to bring some balance to the continually fascist feed from the UK govt and press

    'The economics of even thinking about tax cuts whilst promising no tax rises on the wealthy and balanced budgets is not 'bomb-proof' economic thinking. It is straight from the economic madhouse, otherwise known as Tufton Street. Frankly, Liz Truss was no worse than this. That is how bad things are if this is what Labour is proposing.'

    Labour is apparently planning tax cuts that can only mean the end for public services as we have known them https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/01/03/labour-is-apparently-planning-tax-cuts-that-can-only-mean-the-end-for-public-services-as-we-have-known-them/

    This is so depressing. Labour have the best opportunity to win a majority, that they've had in 15 years, but they want to lean even further into failed policies and abandon any semblance of caring for people.
