All of a sudden, I felt really passionate about pulling her out the closet, framing and hanging her. Then I realize I did this the day before starts.

Better than showing up at Josephine Baker’s house in France the week after her birthday. Or hanging up my Maria Callas poster the month before her centennial. My favorites speak to me.

: on this historic day, it seems fitting that angela davis celebrates her 80th birthday. she's always seen the parallels between the struggles of the palestinian people & ALL subjugated peoples - & she's made her solidarity material by visiting . her outspokenness on the subject has resulted in the withdrawal of a civil rights award (what?) & an attempt to remove her name from the lycee saint denis.

simple digital ink poster of activist, author, philosopher, academic & marxist, angela davis. angela looks to the left, pensive, her right hand poised beneath the right side of her face. above her, text reads: 'liberez' on one line & 'angela davis' below it. there's a red block of colour behind her. & the rest of the image is in the same red.

LOL. Currently standing in a Carl’s Jr. proudly wearing my shirt, waiting for my western bacon cheeseburger… when 3 cops and 2 military officers walk in the spot. They are clearly angered by the shirt. I remain unbothered and smiling with 2 male friends.

LMAOOOOO. wish me luck.

“Virtually every institution seized upon that term, ‘diversity.’ And I always ask, ‘Well, where is justice here?’ Are you simply going to ask those who have been marginalized or subjugated to come inside of the institution and participate in the same process that led precisely to their marginalization? Diversity and inclusion without substantive change, without radical change, accomplishes nothing.”

“‘Justice’ is the key word. How do we begin to transform the institutions themselves? How do we change this society? We don’t want to be participants in the exploitation of capitalism. We don’t want to be participants in the marginalization of immigrants. And so there has to be a way to think about the connection among all of these issues and how we can begin to imagine a very different kind of society.”

"“There are some feminist formations that are very opposed to the trans presence, and that is so backwards. Those of us who are more flexible argue that if you want to get rid of violence directed against individuals in the world, whether it’s racist violence or gender violence, you have to support Black trans women who are the target of more violence than any other group of people. "

petite_phenix,

“In a racist society it is not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist.”
