I don’t know what I’m doing, either.

I do a fair amount of boosting which, for me, means “this post has value”, so not necessarily that I agree with it.

Following is open, no worries if you dip in and dip out. I tend to wait to follow until I’ve interacted with you a bit first.

Not thrilled with how Biden is handling the crisis in the Middle East? Think you might not vote for him in “protest.” Well…

PLEASE CONSIDER THE FUCKING ALTERNATIVE (while you still can)⏵

“Trump told donors he will crush pro-Palestinian protests, deport demonstrators.”

Gift article: https://wapo.st/4bywzh1

WhiteCatTamer,
@WhiteCatTamer@mastodon.online avatar

@MoBlack @shoq Then I see no further value to this conversation if that is your take.

WhiteCatTamer,
@WhiteCatTamer@mastodon.online avatar

@MoBlack @shoq I know what you are doing now: trying to argue that it is immoral to utilize a political tool like voting at a time when it is unwise to cede ANY political power of any form.

WhiteCatTamer,
@WhiteCatTamer@mastodon.online avatar

@MoBlack @shoq It may be useful to your view to read “be sure to vote” as containing “and do only that”, but that is not the case, and again, your willingness to do that tells me your aim is to simplify rather than honestly engage.

WhiteCatTamer,
@WhiteCatTamer@mastodon.online avatar

@MoBlack @shoq Biden thinks protestors who break the law should receive the due punishment for breaking the law. Every activist worth their salt knows their actions will lead to them going to jail and they accept that because that’s how you change things.

Trump wants to revoke their citizenships and leave them stranded in foreign countries, or shoot them.

Do you really not see a difference there?

WhiteCatTamer,
@WhiteCatTamer@mastodon.online avatar

@MoBlack @shoq Then that is because you choose to simplify a complex situation so that you can frame your unwillingness to engage with it as moral.

WhiteCatTamer,
@WhiteCatTamer@mastodon.online avatar

@MoBlack @shoq You can be as organized as a drill sergeant’s sock drawer and change just as much if your organization is not capable of shifting or eliminating political power from those forces who are heavily backed by moneyed interests.

It looks like the jury instructions in the Trump Manhattan case will soon be available in transcript form. When they are available I plan to analyze them.

Jury instructions are key. Not everything bad or immoral is a crime. To be convicted of a crime, the prosecution has to present evidence beyond a reasonable doubt to prove each element of a specific crime.

Because of how complicated this charging document is (predicate crimes for predicate crimes) the jury instructions will give the roadmap.

WhiteCatTamer,
@WhiteCatTamer@mastodon.online avatar

@mattblaze @godzero @Teri_Kanefield Hmmm.

On the one hand, I understand the argument that poor physical notes could, by their being physical, confer a greater sense of authority to the notetaker/other jurors, and a disagreement on the facts could lead to more hung juries.

On the other hand, that strikes me as, by default, lending more weight to the confident juror in place of the meticulous and attentive one, and leaving all at a bit of a loss.

WhiteCatTamer,
@WhiteCatTamer@mastodon.online avatar

@mattblaze @godzero @Teri_Kanefield That seems absurd to me, especially in trials that can last months. Was there an argument for this/keeping this in, that you know of?

Evidently, I am in a mood for self flagellation because I actually suffered through Trump’s entire statement today. If you also wish to punish yourself, here’s a link to it.

https://www.c-span.org/video/?536064-1/president-trump-holds-press-conference-guilty-verdict#&vod

There’s likely a ton of takeaways from this and his demeanor and all that hot take crap but I have a few points that may get overlooked:

  1. Trump repeatedly admits that he is willfully violating the gag order that is still in place, all but daring Merchan to hold him in contempt and jail him for it.

  2. If I were on Bragg’s team, this would be my first exhibit at sentencing to prove that Trump has no remorse and that an incarcerate sentence is necessary. It is a complete demonstration of the total lack of willingness to take responsibility for his criminal conduct, blaming anyone and everyone but himself for his criminal acts.

Just my $.02.

WhiteCatTamer,
@WhiteCatTamer@mastodon.online avatar

@Bam Can Merchan take into account both his deliberate gag order violations - by himself and his minions - and his history of inspiring political violence when determining whether to lock Trump up?

If you can’t get him to stop threatening the judge and jury with a gag order, and that can put their health at risk…

No one is blameless, and blame that crushes people until they become openly cynical and indifferent is not being used properly.

You make a mistake, you aren’t perfect, you hurt people, you live, you ask forgiveness, you make another mistake… that’s life.

@gabrielesvelto Although it’s a bit of a misnomer, since it’s techbros and not boomers, the Youths calling it “boomer art” is kinda hilarious.

Establishing “AI Tier” as the “technically exists but is entirely devoid of any other value” is another way of devaluing a product that these schmucks are desperately and obstinately stuffing value into.

Ironic: Amid rising anti-mask rules for "security," a STUDY shows that sunglasses are more effective than masks in hiding identity. Instead of banning safe masks, maybe conservatives should try banning sunglasses instead and see how their constituents react.

@augieray …I should wear sunglasses more.

It’s just such a pain to wear them over eyeglasses (and transition lenses are their own PITA).

Sidenote: if you have light eyes - blue, green - then wearing sunglasses can help to save your eyes from deteriorating at a faster rate.

Kansas voters have no fundamental constitutional right to vote, Supreme Court rules

https://www.yahoo.com/news/kansas-voters-no-fundamental-constitutional-173716213.html

@WarnerCrocker “One gets the impression reading the dissents that they think of the 'right to vote' in talismanic terms, as though it were a kind of superpower of citizenship, to be wielded in times of trouble whenever and wherever desired," Stegall [author of the majority opinion] wrote. "Our view is both more realistic and practical as well as more legally and constitutionally precise."

Freaking yikes.

Baking pro-tip: if you didn’t plan on baking and so did not pre-soften your butter and you are baking NOW, if you get the butter out and then search “how to soften butter quickly” and then click on “why butter has to be soft” and then on links about how different fat contents and temperatures affect the size and stability of the air bubbles and on and on and on, the butter will be sufficiently soft by the time you remember what you were doing.
