If you are near Dundee this week and love , go see the Dundee Rep’s adaptation of one of Scotlands iconic novels, Sunset Song. Brilliant production, hugely moving story of a woman’s life in rural Scotland in early 20th century.

Is there a exchange community or group on Mastodon?

I have some chives and green onions that are going to seeds and I will have more seeds than I need.

Of course, there is our local free seeds and plants library but I would prefer to use mastodon as my main seeds resource.

@compost nice idea. I did a few swaps with localish people back on the bird site. I’m in Scotland.

The 7th named storm of the season has hit the UK, the 5th to hit the place I live. In the nearby town of Cupar, they have been waist-deep in floodwater today. This is in action. We must act now to stop unimaginable much more serious effects.

Hold our politicians to account. If you are a young person who hasn't ever voted, , there's an election coming. If you are not a young person, please pass this hint to someone who is.

An important commentary, published in distinguished scientific journal 'Nature'.

"GDP was never designed to measure societal well-being — only market production and consumption. ...... The misuse of GDP as a policy goal is driving societies towards an unsustainable future that benefits an increasingly small proportion of the population while impoverishing the vast majority"

With the solstice scheduled for 3.27am, 22nd Dec, in the UK (Greenwich I suppose is the location this is calculated for), it is REALLY hard to work out if this 21st Dec is the shortest day, or 22nd Dec. What's everyone else going with?

I don't share work stuff on here often. But here we go. We've just published a paper showing how a computational model of early visual areas can help understand why animal warning signal patterns are...well.....spotty, stripy and colourful.

Vines only set fruit when the temps go down in fall. Eaten raw when young, they taste mostly like cucumber and hint of baby peas but less watery. Mature, needs cooking.

Not sure about regrowing. The cucumbers are done so it’s convenient timing for this veg. I would plant it somewhere where the roots could go deeper as they struggled in the portable raised beds.
