Couldn't figure out why he came in out of nowhere to steal the candidacy from Warren and Sanders...it's so Trump would have a weaker opponent to face. That's why the delay in all of his trials. They mean to do it. Really.

@inthehands @Adam_Cadmon1 Something I rarely if ever see brought into the open is that Sanders is Jewish, and seeing a Jew running for the highest office in the land (regardless of how assimilated or secular he is) would've brought out an unbelievable amount of ugliness. I'd bet there're lifelong progressive Dems who'd hesitate at pulling the lever for a Jew.

Antisemitism in the US is like background noise. It's always there, but sometimes it gets loud enough for non-Jews to hear.

FYI - I worked on 2 different #RealityTV shows in #Canada & after those lived work experiences - told everyone I could - don't agree to go on these shows. It's almost all scripted, not reality. Crews are forced to put pressure on voluntary participants - who rarely know WTF they're signing up for & producers exploit naivety. Don't chase easy fame/easy money - they both come at high personal costs. Don't agree to be traumatized on TV, for money. You'll regret it.

@msquebanh My erstwhile burlesque troupe was once shadowed on tour by some TV people who were pitching a reality show about us. The catch is, that tour was drama-free! The bus didn't break down, everyone got along, there were no sketchy band houses or out-of-control audience members. They tried to stir up a little drama and no one took the bait. Real Housewives we were not.

Needless to say, their pitch flopped.

@BlackAzizAnansi 1. I don't think most people know the Uyghurs exist, and there's a faction of the left that's fully committed to minimizing the harm the Chinese gov't is directly causing.
2. It's easy to boycott a small country that exports few tangible consumer goods to the US. (Sabra hummus is not made in Israel, btw.)

Y'all want to hear a fact that really changed the way I thought about homelessness?

Half of all homeless people were in the foster system at some point. Social Workers often call the foster system The Highway to Homelessness. If you ever had a point in your life where you had to live with friends or family to for a short time to get back on your feet, remember that is a privilege that not everyone had.

@RickiTarr I have never been houseless, but I was functionally homeless for five years. I stayed at a friend's house, rent free; I lived on the margins of someone else's life. If that situation hadn't been available I don't know where I would've gone.

Maybe this is just me being paranoid, but I've noticed a rise in somewhat innocent looking nostalgia content, and as much as I love nostalgia, I feel like there's an intentional effort going on to groom people into being resistant to societal change.

@BlackAzizAnansi I think there's also a genuine, society-wide fear of the future/lack of capacity to imagine a different, better future. And it affects cultural tastemakers (from movie/TV & publishing execs down to the people who run engagement-bait pop culture nostalgia pages on FB) as much as it affects the rest of us.

In the 2024 election, I am a single-issue voter, and that issue is climate. The Biden administration's climate and decarbonization policy isn't enough, not yet, but it's been tremendous, and is still ramping up. Whereas a second Trump administration would demolish the EPA and double down on fossil fuels.

@GottaLaff This is why I don't have any patience with people who insist there's no difference between the parties. In Michigan, the difference between gerrymandered Repub control and Dem control has been night and day. That trifecta got us abortion rights protected, LGBTQ anti-discrimination written into law, ambitious clean energy goals, right-to-work repealed, no doubt more wins I've overlooked.
