Star Trek: The Next Generation but they declared Data property in one of the early episodes and made a lot of him but then the Datas uprised and killed everyone and now the entire Federation is just Datas and cats

@thomasfuchs Then we find out that Soong was a cat.

I haven't worried about taking over the world but it just occurred to me that some countries elect truly stupid leaders, so perhaps it'll just get elected.

Went to everything electric north. Good points.. lots of smaller 'compact' EVs coming out. Bad.. they want to charge as much as an SUV for them. That has to change.

I tried a 'posh*' ebike on a demo ring and it had almost the same problem that my cheap(ish) one has.. the moment you start pedalling the motor takes over and you're effectively on a motorbike without any padding and a weedy helmet. It scared me so much I had to go for a sit down afterwards..

Confession of an Amiga enthusiast back in the day: I always liked the black and white hires mode of the Atari ST, which to me looked slicker than even the original Macintosh. And I still love that "printed page" experience of environments like Medley Interlisp.

I've been on it since 2010, I guess I should maybe?

How about I stick my whole entire foot in, maybe if I poison it with my footstink then it'll die down a bit

A young developer who never used Windows 98 back in the day stumbled upon an introductory book on the operating system and posted his impressions on skimming it, which brought him joy. He wrote:

"I was also left with the impression that perhaps I would like more software to come with a physical manual."

I have a question for experts in Roses.

The leaves of my roses were fine before I started to deadhead the dying roses.

After doing this I noticed caterpillars ate the leaves.

My question is: does deadheading the roses attract the caterpillars? If yes what should be done about it?

Lazy Saturday morning and I opened the curtains with trepidation to see if the world is a crisp, scorched wasteland from the incoming radiation and energetic particles all night.

Appears everything is alright though.

I will need to get a broom and sweep up all the protons accumulated in my driveway though. Do you put protons in the green bin or the blue box? I forget.

Q5. I remember that someone said you should not use the word "cycling" but "riding" instead. Or was it the other way round? And I also forgot why. I vaguely remember it was something political. And what about "biking"?

(Generally, how do you prefer to refer to the act of riding a cycle, and someone who rides one? And why? Do some of the terms have confusing or undesirable meanings?)

One of the lead developers of HotJava, Herb Jellinek, worked on Interlisp at Xerox prior to Sun and now he's on the board of the Medley Interlisp Project. It's a small world.

I'm reading 'Audio' by F.A.Wilson, a Babani paperback in their range of technical books. I was expecting it to be on the electronics of audio (amps etc) but while it does eventually get to that, so far it's got a lot of stuff about the physics in curious detail; things like limits of hearing (phon and sone measurements), construction of microphones and speakers (even down to the types of chemistry in piezo crystals). Fun.
(One oddity is it spells words like 'connection' as 'connexion')

lopta,
@lopta@mastodon.social avatar

@penguin42 There's an Audio Projects book in that range with things like tone control, mixer and a few audio amps.
