I wish I could tell people who call being trans a choice what it feels like I chose.

I wish they knew everything I chose to gave up. I gave up security and stability: financially, politically, romantically, medically, physically. I wish they knew the things that broke and can’t be fixed and the hurt and pain I can't take back.

They’re right, I chose all of that. But it wasn’t the choice to start pretending I'm someone I'm not, but the choice to stop.

Water is a molecule with two hydrogens and an oxygen. Sometimes, instead of hydrogen it has deuterium, which has an extra neutron. This is heavy water.

It’s a kind of water because, while rare, it naturally occurs and when it’s in the mix it all acts, looks, and reacts just like “normal” water. We didn’t know what we called water was mostly “light water.” We learned there’s more than one kind, and that’s neat.

Heavy water is water.

Oh hey it's me, the white trans woman with curly brown hair. As it turns out, I just lost my job, which sucks. I'm a mom of two young kids, and am paying some really high rent in the SF Bay Area.

Parenting toddlers is like having a bad manager. You not doing something is suddenly a crisis and then they forget about it 5 minutes later. You finish the day feeling drained but unsure if you accomplished anything and somehow you did everything they wanted and they are still mad at you.
