@rwg One difference is Meta is trying to stay in the good graces of the EU and other regulators. TBH without that it's unlikely they'd be bothering to implement ActivityPub.
Musk has already demonstrated he doesn't care at all. Even so, it might be worth trying it out and seeing if the bad actors can be blocked individually. Basically, the same as any large instance.
@rwg If #musk announces that #x/#twitter is adopting #activitypub and will federate, then most instances would announce level 5 full self federation with #x until end of the year.
@rwg@thisismissem For me a key question would be: does the instance (Twitter/Threads) systematically disrespect my own instance's rules. If so, it'll be defederated just like other such instances.
For myself - having account-blocked + instance-level limited Threads - I wonder how I'll be able to follow development of the fedi, once Meta has taken over the lead here.
I follow ActivityPub hashtag in a column, but will mostly see just the replies to stuff that Meta engineers create in quick succession.
