Yes, same information I saw elsewhere. They KNEW. This could have been STOPPED

@GottaLaff

Scientists knew this back around 1900. I read newspaper articles about it.

That does look familiar, but I think it was dated a couple years before the turn of the century, not after. Same idea, though. It was well known ...climate change that is. O&G covered it up...

Jon_Kramer,
@Jon_Kramer@mastodon.social avatar

@Snowshadow @greenpete @GottaLaff the 19th Century was a period of discovery, and scientists were testing absorption of gasses. I don't think there is a single turning point other than 1800, and William Herschel:

Wow. He was brilliant esp. for his time. Thanks again for the article. I learned something new today. That makes it a good day.

Sounds like you are thinking of the paper that @gretathunberg great grandfather published in 1896 modeling global warming from burning coal, but it's incorrect to state that it was well-known.

The first measurement of global warming was published in a scientific paper in 1939 I think, but there was a lot going on then so it didn't garner much attention as you might imagine.

Garnering major attention to global warming is a relatively new phenomenon.

Kevin, what was the date of that first scientific paper? Is there a typo in your post?
I have heard of scientific studies that date back to mid nineteenth century. You are right that early studies didn't popularize the concept. It didn't enter the public consciousness until maybe the 1980s.

So the researcher, Eunice Foote experimentally demonsttrated that CO2 was a greenhouse gas at the beginning of the 19th century and the famous scientist Tyndall hypothesized about it.

This was one of or the first to actually put the theory to test numerically, but we didn't have the benefit of people broadcasting obscure stuff like this way back then sadly.

Yes, 1954, but also an article in 1912 in an Australian newspaper.

Piousunyn,

@GottaLaff Bernie Sanders called out and wanted to send fuel industry CEO's to jail, back in 2016. He announced it first at a Town Hall meeting in Chico.

@GottaLaff we took our sons to Disney World in early 1990's. There was a whole ride explaining this. My husband who spent his career in HVAC was with us and I remember getting off the ride and asking "is this true?". He was like " yeah, it sadly is".

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@debrashannon Yep. They knew.

pixelpusher220,
