@pfefferle does this mean that if I comment from the fediverse, the blogger can reply me directly from the blog (with me receiving the answer on the fediverse) ?

cc @matz @mau @oblomov

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@luca @mau @oblomov @matz sadly not, but if you reply on the fediverse it will be properly sent to your blog.

babysteps :)

this was the first step in the direction you described.

curlicious,

@pfefferle that’s neat

@pfefferle nice! thank! is it still "only" for one page blogs or are more complex wp's supported?

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@naturzukunft can you explain what you mean with "one page blog"?

naturzukunft,
@naturzukunft@mastodon.social avatar

@pfefferle unfavorably no, because I have little to no knowledge of Wordpress. We wanted to activate your plugin for https://www.ökoligenta.de/blog42/ a long time ago, but for some reason it didn't work. I remember that it only worked if WP had no other pages and a blog directly on "root".

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@naturzukunft it has nothing to do with pages, but some spec require some config for root. It is possible to do that by hand, there is a section in the plugins faq.

alan,

@pfefferle I hate to be the "that's nice but" guy... but using a slug of the user's name instead of the username would be helpful. It's common to use randomized usernames these days. Also I'm afraid I can't turn it on until there's a filter by category. My WP plugin foo isn't the best but I'll take a look at the category bit, at least.

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@alan good point, this is still one of the most requested feature. thanks for bringing it on the table!

in the meantime you could use the blog as user and deactivate single-users completely!

alan,

@pfefferle It's a single author site, so that was my first step. It's the category filter that's the show-stopper though. I have some side posts that are noindex that I'll share with friends but that I don't want showing up in a feed.

Ugh, actually in the ideal case it's worse than that. It would be nice to have per-category feeds too.

I'll stop now. I can see a lot of work has gone into this and it probably meets 80% of use cases as it is.

itthinx,

@pfefferle Looks interesting!

@pfefferle Will it become possible to pass text formatting from a WP post to a Mastodon feed?

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@ParanoidFactoid can you explain that a bit?

ParanoidFactoid,
@ParanoidFactoid@mastodon.social avatar

@pfefferle Yes.

If I subscribe from Mastodon to a blog hosted on WP, I get a plain text rendition of the blog entry in my feed. All formatting is lost.

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@ParanoidFactoid do you have an example link?

ParanoidFactoid,
@ParanoidFactoid@mastodon.social avatar

@pfefferle Here's a comparison with screenshots I did a while back:

@Weltenkreuzer@social.tchncs.de avatar

@pfefferle Uuh, darauf habe ich gewartet. Gibt es im Backend mittlerweile eigentlich auch eine Ansicht, wer dem Blog im Fediversum "folgt" und von Reaktionen sowie "Boosts"?

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@pfefferle Thank you, this is great news!

Any idea when this is likely to come to wordpress.com-hosted blogs?

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@mike latest tomorrow I would say!

mike,
@mike@sauropods.win avatar

@pfefferle Oh, that's very welcome news!

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@mike it took us one more day, but it is now live!

@pfefferle @mike

I'll totally understand if this isn't your department, but any idea on when the feature might be available on wordpress.com for blogs not on the Business Plan?

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@selfawarepatterns @mike what feature? ActivityPub?

ActivityPub is available to all plans on WordPress.com. Simply go to the settings on "Discussion" and activate it.

@pfefferle @mike

Thanks, but I was asking about Threaded Comments, which those resources predate.

I actually turned on the overall Fediverse feature (which I assume is your plugin under the covers) back on Oct 11. Love the functionality! But the limited comment functionality remains a pain point.

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@selfawarepatterns @mike threaded comments (answers to answers on the fediverse) are love on WordPress.com now. Full federated comments (federate also comments written on WordPress) is the next step.

mike,
@mike@sauropods.win avatar

@pfefferle @selfawarepatterns This is so good! And it's happening so fast!

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@mike @selfawarepatterns I hope that was not meant ironically 🤞

😉

mike,
@mike@sauropods.win avatar

@pfefferle @selfawarepatterns No, not at all — I am genuinely surprised, borderline shocked, that this code is not only being written but actually deployed with such alacrity.

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@mike @selfawarepatterns this is thanks to and a lot of help from inside and outside the company ❤️

pfefferle,
@pfefferle@mastodon.social avatar

@selfawarepatterns @mike We have to make some fundamental changes, because WordPress handles comments differently than Mastodon et al. and we have to think about how to handle comments that are made on the blog but from visitors. We can not simply send them to mastodon, because they have no profile and of GDPR reasons.

But if this is done, it will be also possible to handle profile changes better and to simplify the integration of third party plugins.

selfawarepatterns,
@selfawarepatterns@mastodon.social avatar

@pfefferle @mike

Thanks for the explanation! That makes total sense. Really appreciate your efforts, and being willing to answer questions about it.
