This is a find-your-people post for TTRPG folk.

Please respond by saying what sorts of TTRPG things you're pretty likely to either talk about or respond to if you see them.

This can be a list of games (D&D! Tribe 8! Fate!) or categories (the weirdest of indie stuff! NSR! Anything PBtA!), topics (Worldbuilding! Publishing!), stuff you're making, meta-commentary (The State Of The Industry), and so on.

Then maybe share, and if the replies are building up, check them for new people.

steelguildcoop,

@LeviKornelsen hey everybody! 👋
My name is Asher, and I post (and blog!) about all sorts of stuff. I have some adventures on my itch page!

Working on a project that uses as its skeleton. I like worker-owned businesses, am a Leftist from Pittsburgh, and have been getting really into DUNGEON SYNTH.

LoreMerchant,

@LeviKornelsen Obviously is the most likely subject you'll get from me, but I might wander into other topics as well, since I'm just a fan of gaming in general. Mainstream? Indie? GM Advice? Player support? Pretty books?

It's all good.

@LeviKornelsen

I wrote Sufficiently and Sorcerously Advanced, Monster Ambulance, Console, and others. AMA. Seriously I love talking about my games.

I play mostly Exalted these days, but I'm also a big fan of Tenra Bansho Zero, Monster Care Squad, Heart, Nobilis, Continuum, Icon, Delta Green, Unknown Armies, Tribe 8, etc. I'll play D&D-derived things but WotC no longer gets my money.

I love any sort of setting that leans into its premise hard.

I hang out on RPG.net.

@LeviKornelsen Hi! Literally 20 mins ago I thought about finding more folks on here who are into this. Looking to join and play more RPG campaigns online, as I am still avoiding face to face contexts. Played Vampire and Warhammer, would be OK with any system though. Can anyone give me ideas on where to start looking?

    Would actually be useful for me too: I have a group of friends (mostly transwomen in their 40s+) who are potentially needing a new DM for their DnD 5E game on Discord. So, if there was anyone looking to take over an Exceptionally Silly and Homeruled game full of murderhobos, let me know and we can chat about it.

    @LeviKornelsen I'm happy to have found this post, if a little late. I came to Mastodon to find my people.

    Besides that happy to hear and learn about your experiences and getting some viability for the great artists in that space.

    Also getting more into making and where I actually share some of the many maps I make for my campaigns

    If anyone wants to connect / collaborate on something, absolutely hit me up!

    What are the most common problems at DM academy? :-?

    @Homebrewandhacking @LeviKornelsen

    Well, mainly getting it populated, really. is a subreddit, but reddit is no longer a place I wish to be. There's some lemmy/kbin instances of it, but I think it's a good # to get going.

    Generally, the main issues for new DMs are keeping the player characters at the foreground of everything, including the as well as aligning all the various needs a party might have properly.

    Not going to mention the bane of scheduling conflicts

    Homebrewandhacking,

    @Imperor

    Well the big problem in world building is the lack of culture. Heritages and what not are used as stand-ins but that's clearly wildly off-base and has questionable assumptions baked in. E.g. if an Elf is raised at the bottom of a dwarf mineshaft then why should they know how to use a bow.

    Levi has a very interesting free book on how to write cultures conceptually, you should check it out!

    Shadow of the Demonlord was some of the most fun I've had in RPGs but you derfinitely need the right crew for it.

    The multiclassing is just brilliant (the fact EVERYONE is a multiclasser by default) and the adventures are spartan but OH so delightfully cruel.

    But you definitely need the right group for it all.

    insipidutopian,

    @Tearcell @LeviKornelsen Its at the top of my to-play list. I'm hoping maybe to run a one-shot type of deal someday, but I have to get more familiar with the rules first. The Shadow of the Weird Wizard kickstarter is in full tilt right now, blowing through stretch goals, in case you missed it... Its the fantasy sword & sorcery offshoot of SotDL.

    ErrantCanadian,

    @LeviKornelsen Thanks for hosting—we gotta pump up the community here so the elephant can trample the ex-bird.

    On here I'm likely to talk about indie games, but I do still like , for all its corporate and design faults. Some favs are , , and . But I love anything that is trying to do something new while also being recognizably a . (Some of the more experimental stuff is a little too out there for me!)

    I also retoot a lot of art.

    @LeviKornelsen I'm almost always the narrator/game-master for games, though I'm playing in a game right now on occasion.

    I mostly narrate for and (two groups).

    And though it's not quite a , I'd toss into the mix, too. It scratches many of the same itches, even though it's much more a board game than a TTRPG.

    zapleaf,

    @LeviKornelsen
    I play Lancer and Blades in the Dark.

    I'm writing a / called Veil Runners. It's designed for or episodic games. Easy to learn, narrative-oriented, improvisational. The design focuses on the players' ship as the core of the party, and aims to deliver plenty of player agency opposed by dire situations.

    This would be the first game I make public, my previous games (Rust Skunks, Burden, Operation Awesome, and Neurohack) never left the home table.

    @LeviKornelsen I’m super interested in TTRPGs that work as ‘visionary fiction’ invitations for players, or that work with in interesting ways. Things like Avery Alder’s games (especially the games in Variations on Your Body) but also any game with cool or interesting gender expansive dynamics (like Apocalypse World). I am in the very early stages of planning a gaming and narrative therapy conference-ish thing for next year. I’d love to hear about other games that fit!

    @LeviKornelsen I am a horror enhusiast in every layer!

    My most favorite is KULT: Divinity Lost, and after that there comes

    Mörk Borg
    Call of Cthulhu (classic)
    Alien RPG
    Death in Space
    Vaesen
    The One Ring
    Shiver RPG
    Avatar Legends a little
    And actually any other storywise roleplaying games.

    I keep myself away from dnd because of a huge burnout

    broxen,

    @LeviKornelsen I love the settings for and and will always follow interesting conversations about those worlds.

    For systems I'm an evangelist for but I also really enjoy and Protocol Game Series.

    I'm currently in a Shadowrun game set in New Orleans and we're using an adaptation of the Savage Worlds ruleset. Couple sessions ago my Dwarf Private Investigator taunted a nasty looking Troll by eating his McHugh's 🍔🍟 from his fridge. 😂

    @LeviKornelsen

    My favorite games I've actually played are the 3.x cluster — D&D 3.0, D&D 3.5, d20 Modern, and PF1.

    I believe it'd be possible to make a D&D-like game I like better, but WotC won't be the one to make it.

    is my favorite D&D setting by far! But sometimes an original setting is a better fit for a D&Dish idea. And sometimes a fantasy idea isn't particularly D&Dish, but I don't have a system I favor for that yet.

    nimael,

    @LeviKornelsen i mostly like queer independant ttrpg, but i play everything i can c:

    currently running a Public Access (by Jason Cordova) campaign 💛

    i've played and loved :

    • Apocalypse Keys (and everything from Rae Nedjadi)
    • Wanderhome (i also love Jay Dragon's work)
    • Brindlewood Bay (played a lot of these grandmas!)

    the current ttrpg authors i am following closely are stargazersasha (the girlfriend of my girlfriend...), logan timmins (LOGAN...) and snow (.dungeon, The Wizards and the Wastes...)

    @LeviKornelsen 1/2 I prefer TTRPG tools that are mechanically elegant and efficient, and convey strong sense-of-place (in other words, rules-lite and theme-heavy).
