There are several Mastodon accounts with variations on my username impersonating me to run scams. Please know I will never ask you to join me on Telegram or ask for you to send me gift cards!

Okay, but couldn't the other account say YOU were the impostor?
What you need is to set up verification on your Mastodon account. It's not that hard. Just go on your website (which only you and not you're impostors control) and put in a tag that says which Mastodon account is the REAL you, in a way that Mastodon understands. It shows up as a green checkmark on your profile.

Afaik WaPo still supports "rel=me" where basically a link to your WaPo page gets verified and that link turns green. You'd probably have to ping Phil Bump or IT for the specifics
@taylorlorenz I suggest that you verify your account. This will help your followers spot the fakes. You could mark your account as owned by the same person who controls

The kind of people who know how to game the system are the elite few and none of them are sharing that money with the rest of us.
