J.K. Rowling also writes under a pen name of "Robert Galbraith", publishing over half a dozen titles under that name, most of which have TV adaptations.

Robert Galbraith Heath was the American Psychiatrist who pioneered Gay Conversion Therapy to convert homosexuals through electro-shock therapy.

Of course Rowling denies any connection between these two things. Thus, I'm only stating facts. You can make your own decisions about them, because I know you guys aren't stupid.

ABA is either mostly used on children or exclusively used on children. I have never heard of it being used on anyone who is not a child. In some places it's the go to treatment for young autistic children.

And ABA is often not seen as Conversion Therapy even though it is and so is not covered by bans on Conversion Therapy. And yes I am not talking about just one place. It's often the go to treatment for autistics in many countries. It's seen as helping autistic children become more 'normal' when it doesn't actually. It just teaches them to mask their autism & feel bad every time their autism shows.

@AutisticMumTo3 @JizzelEtBass @darwinwoodka @ned

I just can't believe we, humans, are so cruel in so many ways. It's still something I struggle with every day, wondering how we can be just so outright and blatantly cruel to each other. We can't blame governments when it is people who make governments run.

But when it comes to children, that's just a whole different class of evil.

I'm sorry. The fear you must feel....I just can't fathom

One good point about not being diagnosed until the age of 33, one of the very few in a sea of bad stuff, is I was too old for ABA. My parents would have definitely put me through ABA had they know and if it was available back then. not2b,
@not2b@sfba.social avatar

@ned While I loathe her transphobia, I don't think that this is the reason she picked the name, because she isn't for gay conversion therapy: she used to support cis gay people, only rejecting trans people (not that this is excusable) and there are a lot of other Galbraiths she could been thinking of, like John Kenneth Galbraith, the economist. It might serve as a somewhat pompous British name.

theogrin,
@theogrin@chaosfem.tw avatar

@not2b @ned

The claim that JKR used to support gay people is a surprising one, as the only instance of a gay person appearing in her books is posthumous -- that is, she said that Dumbledore was gay, and that's it. This has since been woven into a plot point where his paramour was...

... wizard Hitler.

Since then her true colours have run through the mask, and she's displayed a level of vicious, open contempt for the LGBTQIA+ folks who once found some surcease from the horrors of life, both quiet and loud, in her works.

I believe that any visible support of such groups was dependent upon us supporting her in turn, a commonplace 'ally' tactic to get us to carry water for someone who's laughing behind our backs.

@freemo @toxomat @ned you didn't just ask, you snarked a load of snark at the person you 'asked' after the fact, when it is not commonplace to cite things that are in the public consciousness widely already.
