The #EndangeredSpecies Act, 50 years in: $1.2B per year, but mostly a few #species
Associated Press analysis of #2020 data found #fish got 67% of spending, the majority for several dozen #salmon and #steelhead populations in #California, #Oregon and #Washington. #Mammals were a distant second with 7% of spending and #birds had about 5%. #Insects received just 0.5% of the money and #plants about 2%. Not included in those percentages is money divided among multiple species. https://fortune.com/2024/01/03/endangered-species-act-50-year-anniversary-salmon-trout-grizzly-bears/

6 Republicans who falsely certified that Trump won Nevada in 2020 indicted

A Nevada grand jury on Wednesday indicted six Republicans who submitted certificates to Congress falsely declaring Donald Trump the winner of the 2020 presidential election in their state, making Nevada the third to seek charges against so-called "fake electors."

3rd state to do so…. More states need to speed this up.

I’m remembering the weird moments of 2020 when I could go into a store to buy something, but only be permitted to purchase certain items deemed “essential.” One time, I could buy any hat at a dollar store except for red ones, and I could purchase junk food but not exercise equipment.

Three defendants in the sprawling 2020 election interference case in Georgia have already agreed to plead guilty to avoid jail, and six other defendants are reportedly in talks with the prosecution for similar deals. While it sounds like trouble for former President Trump, some legal experts say the nature of the agreements are a sign that the prosecutor’s case could be weak. Read more about the pleas and what they could mean for the case.

Scott Hall, one of 19 people charged in former President Trump’s 2020 election interference case in Georgia, is the first co-defendant to plead guilty. The bail bonds business owner is accused of tampering with voting machines in a Coffee County election office. The prosecution of former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows will remain in Georgia after a judge denied his request to move his case to federal court. Lawyers for Meadows made the request in order to invoke federal immunity and potentially get the case dismissed. The decision may be an indicator that other 2020 election interference defendants, including former President Trump, will also have their requests for a federal trial denied.
