@pawelszczur@pol.social avatar

I'll be high-temperature/high-speed modding my 3D printers soon.

This Ender 3 clone (Voxelab Aquila X2) is already running great with an all metal heat-break and CHT clone nozzle, but I can't push it too far until I deal with some micro wobble. I have a high temp thermistor, copper heat-block, 70W heater, as well as some parts that should eliminate ringing in the Z lead screws (OldHam couplers). Really I'm just waiting on some metal supports for the frame.

Sometimes I talk about stuff I to someone and they will ask me if I plan to "finish" the part. I assume its primarily because they think about 3d prints for cosplays or other forms of prop making.

Priming/sanding/painting is typically reserved for parts that you don't want to look 3d printed, and its not done en masse because its a very time consuming and labor intensive process. In layman's terms: It fucking sucks.

Its better to lean into the 3d printed aesthetic than it is to try to sand, bondo puddy, sand, putty, sand, primer, sand, primer, sand, paint, sand, paint, sand, and paint a part.

This is a fantastic article on rotations and by the great Keenan Crane @keenancrane

My son saw the test model there "Spot the cow", and we just had to one and color it in :)

Get yours over at Keenan's model repository:

A photograph of a 3D printed model of Spot the cow. The model was printed using white filament and then coloured (spots and eyes etc were drawn on) with markers.

I haven't posted my prints for some time. ;-)

Straight Duplo track of 12 duplo studs, equal to about 120 LU (Lego Units, one is 1.6mm).

We (me & son) need them to build looooong bridges ;-)

This one is a test run. If it works more or less ok, i'm gonna print few more.

It was generated and fine tuned from a OpenSCAD model available on Thingiverse.

I have my own brick OpenSCAD script, which generates better print models, but my script is inferior in parametriztion and it's not that easy to integreate it.

Titanic Torso!

The titan's torso is assembled enough to get a glimpse at the final product and he's HUGE! For reference, the can of Zandri Dust spray primer is 7.75" tall and that chainsword is 14.75" long from tip of blade to bottom of powercell. This guy is a towering 22.5" tall and he doesn't even have his carapace armor, guns, or void shields on yet!

As always with 3D printing, it's important to get the 1st layer right for the success of the print. Printing a stack in beech wood this time.

And it’s done. A replacement bracket for a Muji CD1 player. Fits like the original, though the print quality could be a bit better - it was a draft to check sizing, but looks like it’ll actually do the job.
